Full description:

Superb Country Estate originally built in the 1700's with courtyard, cottage, farm yard and approx 74 acres of land.

Ardglass is a superb country residence which was originally built as a Georgian hunting lodge in the 1700's. The house was rebuilt in c. 1860's in the style of an Italianate villa and exhibits the highly decorative features typical of the Victorian era.

Since purchasing the property the current owners have invested considerable time and expenditure meticulously and sensitively restoring the house and grounds while being mindful to retain the integrity of the original period features. All works were carried out under the supervision of a conservationist architect and all modern material used were in accordance to the Georgian tradition.

The roof has been re-slatted using blue banger slates and all timbers have been repaired or replaced. The lantern over the main staircase was in poor condition and this has been replaced and the surrounding flat roof re-coppered.

The house now boasts a state of the art heating system run from a dual boiler; new tradition style cast iron radiators; a new plumbing system; new electrical wiring; all windows have been restored and double glazed and all floor and walls have been insulated. Further works also included inputting a specific damp proof course into the back hall and completely insulating the back area of the house.

Today the house presents itself as a magnificent family home with wonderful spacious and bright reception rooms, all decorated to enhance the ornate period features and emphasis the tall windows and high ceilings. The accommodation has an appealing combination of grand and more intimate reception rooms on a manageable scale. Throughout the house there are exquisite features such as Corinthian columns in the hall, ornate cornicing and centre roses, grand antique marble chimney pieces and original panelled doors with decorative architrave surrounds.

The house is approached by a sweeping avenue which also veers past the walled garden and into the courtyard. The main garden is to the left hand side of the house and is in lawn interspersed with mature trees, shrubbery and flower beds. The walled garden is located behind the main garden and adjoining the courtyard on the west side.
