15th century stone watermill which has been lovingly and sensitively restored to preserve it’s original features. This “Once Upon A Time” place rename as the “fairytale house” is in a very private setting alongside a river in an area surrounded by olive groves and vineyards which has attracted poets, writers and artists since the 1700’s when the English Romantic poet William Wordsworth put the 1000 year old Vallombrosa Abbey and it’s fantastic pine forest (visited several times by HRH The Prince of Wales), on the international map.The informal garden bordered by the river offers many inviting nooks and crannies to sit and while away time, while the superb salt water swimming pool is in a beautiful and natural setting with steps leading down to the river where some guests also enjoy a dip under the waterfall. The delightful covered river terrace painted by a Florentine artist on the model of a Medici villa in Florence in the garden overlooking the river is a lovely spot for outdoor eating and lit with candles in the evening is “to-die-for” romantic. The delightfully restored hay loft attached to the house is a magical place for outdoor breakfasts and dinners. The mill-room is our hide-away special room for relaxed eating and wine tasting in an atmosphere of times past. The wood oven - which is frequently lit for roasts and home-made bread, and the barbeque, are next to this room and guests often like to participate in the fascinating wood oven preparation while sampling local and regional wines from our extensive wine cellar.
