Martinhal Family Hotels and Resorts;
Windsurfing surfing and boating a small sample of the activities on offer at the Martinhal resort in south-west Portugal. There are four heated pools at Martinhal, including a big half indoor, half outdoor pool which has its own sauna, steam room and gymnasium.
There are three fine dining restaurants to choose from, all of which cater for babies and older children. On site there is also a five-a-side football pitch, bike hire shop and regular yoga, zumba and pilates classes
Sagres is perfect for walking, cycling, surfing, diving or generally getting a taste of the Algarve. The area is still relatively untouched by tourism. It is certainly very popular with the mobile home owners as there are always lots of them parked overlooking Mareta beach.
It may be the most south-westerly point in Europe, but it certainly isn't bleak or boring. The beaches are lovely and if there is a wind blowing, you will no doubt see a lot of surfing. Sagres is only a twenty minute drive from Lagos, and also the largest town at this end of the Algarve. Great place for shopping, nightlife or near deserted beaches on the western Atlantic coast just waiting to be explored.
Trying to sum up Sagres is difficult. There are lots of places to wine and dine or simply have a snack bistro style, pizzeria, also typical Portuguese. There are restaurants with fabulous views, sunshades and tables on enclosed patios along the main street.
There are glorious sandy beaches protected by high cliffs. Sometimes the wind blows, but the scenery is still spectacular. It is quiet, but also very popular with surfers who no doubt enjoy a get together in the evenings. You can sit at a cafe in the square and read the paper, or watch the locals play boules.
