Albuñuelas is located to the left of the Río Santo gorge, on the edge of the Sierra de Almijara. Because it is so high up, you get great views of the pine and olive forests punctuated by spectacular gorges. Thanks to the great climate of this area, it offers all sorts of sports: paragliding, canyoning, cave walking and mountaineering. It has two excellent hunting areas extending over 7500 hectares. You will also come across lead, nickel and cobalt mines.

It is well worth exploring the Sierra de las Albuñuelas to see places like the Fuente del Cañuelo, just 10 kilometres from the town along the road that leads to Almuñécar. Legend has it that sometimes, when returning from a mountain walk at dusk, one encounters a strange light that is called the Light of the Rambla. It accompanies walkers to the mill at the entrance of the village.

Just south of the historic Moorish city of Granada, The Lecrin Valley is a lovely green, orchard-covered area at the foot of the dramatic Sierra Nevada mountains and within half an hour of the beautiful Costa Tropical. Perfect as a holiday destination, its away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, yet within easy reach, and only a short distance to the city of Granada.

Driving times are about 1 hour 15 from Malaga (with the newly completed motorway), 35 mins from Granada airport, 20 minutes to Granada city and 25 minutes to the Costa Tropical.

The Sierra Nevada is a dramatic, rugged and extensive mountain range, the highest in Europe after the Alps and the most significant section of the Cordillera Penibética. The protected area encompasses 86,208ha of torrential rivers, sheer-sided gorges, stony scree slopes, glacial lakes between snowy summits and, in the foothills of the Alpujarras, cultivated terraces of almond trees and vegetables. Popular activities in the region include skiing, hiking, mountain biking and summer camps. One can simply travel and discover its fauna and flora, see its lagoons and have an adventure in this vast area of land.

Around half an hour to 45 minutes (depending where you choose to visit) are the many coastal towns of the beautiful Costa Tropical. Salobrena, Nerja, Almunecar and the city of Motril. Perfect as a holiday destination, away from the hustle and bustle. Historic and beautiful Moorish Granada is within easy reach- around 20 minutes. There are airports at Granada and at Malaga which is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away.
