The origin is not entirely accurate. In any case, in all the studies it referred to Riquer, who was lord of Cercedol in the tenth century and according to a manuscript of Calixte II (1120), had a defense tower, called "castrum". The arrival of the Saracens led to its destruction and the area was depopulated. The year 1145 the Abbot Ermengol repopulates the territory and put a family with an obligation to rebuild this tower surrounded by a wall.
The first known family who inhabited the fortress were the Vilanova in the late twelfth century. The subsequent years were matched to the Llaceres family who lived in the house next door. At one point an investor from Barcelona, Bernat Palou came to this area. This family, says the historian Miguel Domingo, "were rich merchants and they invested their money in buying land in Sant Cugat.
In the late sixteenth century the house passed into the hands of Erill since the Palou remained childless. The Erill were one of the great noble houses in Catalonia. Later also came the time when Erill remained childless and the house passed to the Marquis of Rupit.
A series of conflicts between the owners and the monastery just causing purchase by this, until in 1842 it was acquired by the family that currently owns this stunning property.
