Ta' Sannat is a village in the south of Gozo, popular for its very high cliffs, ancient cart ruts, temples and dolmens, and rich fauna and flora. Sannat was once famed for its lace making, and there is still a little of this traditional craft carried out today. In 1951 The Duchess of Edinburgh (who became Queen Elizabeth II) of the United Kingdom visited a house called "The Lace house" located in a small square in Ta' Sannat called "Pjazza Tax-Xelina".
The village nestles just below Gozo's highest cliffs, at Ta' Cenc, some 130 metres in height. These cliffs were especially important during the times of the Knights, as they provided essential breeding grounds for their Peregrine hunting falcons. Today, the cliffs are home to a large colony of Cory's Sheerwaters.
Nearby is the delightful Mgarr ix-Xini Gorg and inlet, the setting for a recent film starring Bradd Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
