Los Narejos is a large residential area forming a part of Alcazares. The town of Los Alcazares sits on the edge of the Mar Menor, Europe's largest salt water coastal lake of 170km2. The lovely sandy beaches stretch for 7kms and the attractive paved promenade is ideal for walking and cycling with bars and cafes along the way providing a welcoming stop for refreshments or an evening sundowner and tapa. There are plenty of places to eat out with a good variety of restaurants, take aways and cafes including those on the popular 525 walkway, serving many kinds of cuisine to suit all tastes and budgets. The " Old Town " area of Los Alcazares has some of the best fish restaurants and the Encarnacion Hotel built back in 1904 and right on the beach has a lovely setting for an evening out.

Los Alcazares is one of the top destinations for visitors in the region of Murcia and with 315 days of sunshine a year and average annual temperature of 18ºC it is the perfect place to relax or enjoy a variety of water sports and activities all year round. The warm, sheltered waters of the Mar Menor have a maximum depth of 7 metres and little wave activity making it ideal for swimmers of all ages.

There are various teaching schools in the area which cater for all levels of sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, kite surfing, and stand-up paddle boarding. There is a sports centre in the Old Town with a large indoor pool and gymnasium and also a very good one close by in San Javier.

With excellent motorway connections, Los Alcazares is a good base from which to explore the surrounding area. Murcia city is 30 minutes away, and the port and city of Cartagena 25 minutes. Both cities offering interesting architecture, museums, art galleries, theatres, narrow streets and attractive plazas. Cartagena port has been enlarged and modernised and is now an important stopping point for cruise ships.

San Javier airport is just a 10 minute drive from Los Alcazares. Alicante airport 1 hour. There is a train station in the nearby town of Balsicas which connects with Murcia and then to all major cities in Spain. Bike hire is available in Los Alcazares and Taxis are plentiful. There is a bus route which connects to the main towns of the area.

Just before Cartagena is the huge Espacio Mediterraneo Commercial Centre which is open every day and as well as all the popular fashion outlets has a large Carrefour hypermarket, electrical stores, DIY and furniture stores. The popular La Zenia Boulevard shopping mall near Orihuela, is just 20 minutes away and the newly extended Dos Mares Shopping mall is in San Javier. Los Alcazares has 2 big street markets each week selling a wide selection of fresh local produce as well as household goods and clothes etc.

On the north edge of Los Alcazares is Roda Golf and to the southern end, Serena Golf, both just 5 minutes drive from the town centre. There are numerous other top class courses in close proximity including Mar Menor Golf Resort, La Torre Golf Resort, Terrazas de la Torre, Hacienda Riquelme, Sierra Golf, Lo Romero and El Valle.

Los Alcazares has a good mixture of nationalities including a healthy population of British. Aside from all the various fiestas in each town, there is always some kind of activity to get involved in and many bars in Los Alcazares and nearby towns have live music and entertainment in the evenings. Failing that just take a stroll down to the beach and watch the sun go down over the Mar Menor !
