Thassos Island is the closest island to the mainland Greece, making it accessible with ferry boat connections from 05:00-22:30 and very inexpensive to travel to. The house is located in Rahoni which is in between the two main ports in the North and the closest Prinos port has public bus connections from the village and is only 10 minutes away. The traditional house is fully renovated preserving the village history as the monastic settlement for the Monks from Mt Athos with handcrafted features and raw materials like chestnut, white marble and olive wood from the island. There are 9 types of fruit trees and walnut trees. The gardens are perfect for self-sufficiency and the water comes from a famous mountain spring above the village which provides beautiful pure water. The property plot 325m2 is fully stone walled and gated making it very private and not overlooked. There are no neighbours on either side or above the property despite it being a typical house in the village. The advantages to living in the village is that there are daily deliveries just outside the gate every morning fresh goods from the local baker, local fish monger and throughout the day farmers sell fresh seasonal fruit. The village has a mini market, two cafes, excellent family restaurants serving organic food at extremely affordable prices.

There is public transport, a village doctor operating twice a week from the free agrarian service by the State, and forestry permits are issued from the village to log the forests for free fuel during the winter which is why there are wood burning stoves in the house as well as air conditioning.

There are two double bedrooms one of which is in the garden annex which uses the spa bathroom with additional sleeping (one bed on the loft, one day bed in the living room and a sofa bed in the conservatory and one outside the garden annex). The kitchen is the typical farm style kitchen which is a separate structure off the conservatory which has the outdoor cooking area with the wood burning range cooker, a gas hob, and the BBQ. Inside the kitchen are three refrigerators and one freezer plus the washing machine. All appliances will be left with the house. Furniture and garden tools will also be left so that buyers can begin to live immediately on the property and make their own changes while living there. Someone might wish to extend from the conservatory to enclose the outdoor kitchen area for year round living.

The beaches are 4 minutes away through the village groves of olives and comes out at the crossroads where there is a large discount supermarket which is the biggest on the island. Here the beaches are two types where you can go to the left and enjoy modern and comfortable resort beaches with pools, sunbeds with free WI-FI, beach bars and water sports. To the right you have the entire coastline of quiet white sandy beaches and little coves for privacy. There are a few fish tavernas along the beach but otherwise it is all natural and even has olive groves right to the shoreline providing shade for picnics and swimming in the crystal clear water. The white sand is unique owing to the white marble, which is classified as the whites marble in the world. Thassos has enjoyed centuries of prosperity due to its famous white marble exported worldwide. The house has white marble floors in the kitchen and utility room as well as a desk in the master bedroom, a writers bench in the garden annex and a massage table in the spa all made from this extraordinary white marble.

The island has ancient paths which connect to the mountain villages and two of them go through Rahoni making mountain trekking a joy year round. The local health centre is just 15 minutes from the house and is staffed by English speaking doctors and has 24 hour service free of charge with the European Health Card. Specialist care is available in the new state of the art hospital in Kavala just 6 miles from the port. Other important infrastructure would be the Kavala international airport for direct flights from Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham, the Drama train which takes you to Thessiloniki, Athens or to Istanbul. The bus station in Kavala has daily coach service to Thessiloniki every hour beginning at 05:00 which enables one to fly with Ryan Air and Easy Jet seven days a week, ideal for frequent low budget travel. There are also bus connections from Kavala to Plovdin and Sofia Bulgaria for other flights and winter ski resorts. If one is thinking about an investment rental property Thassos is ideal because it is easily and cheaply accessible with so many options for travel including island hopping from Kavala to the other Aegean islands and also to Athen's Port of Pireaus. This car ferry is great for getting to Italy for Southern European travel while Kavala takes you through the Balkans to for travel to the North of Europe and the UK.

There is a vibrant cultural life on Thassos with world class festivals held in the amphi-theatre or across in Kavala at the Ancient City of Phillipi. There is live music in the evenings at tavenerns in the villages. There are traditional dance classes, language lessons, marble sculpting workshops, ceramic tuition by the local potter and many other organised cultural groups. Thassos has been the centre for the arts from ancient times and Hippocrates wrote a book on the 150 medicinal plants for homeopathy which he discovered on the island while he lived there. Dozens of antiquities across the island boast of this magnificent history and heritage. Few are even organised or protected from access to the public. The other fine architectural sites are the monasteries inhabited by nuns who run their own tours. A small monastery from the 1700's on the mountain top of Castro has some of finest examples of Hagiography in the region. A local shepherd has the key and you can even dine on rustic food prepared by his wife after the tour of the Monastery from their charming annex of the monastery.

Thassos is way of life and it is the magical landscape combined with the friendly and warm locals. The house is located in the most popular village for expats to live in due to its beauty of the mountain and seascapes being so close as well as the Ports and the health centre. This property is in a very commercial area and with the garden annex one could run an office from there and be separate from the house. It also is ideal for a guest attending a sculptors workshop and could be good income on a B&B basis. There is a separate sculptors studio which we could allow guests to use which is 10 minutes walk through the village and could also be sold. The little garden annex is also great for your own guests with their own bathroom. This property is not wheel chair accessible due to stairs and multiple levels as this was once a grape vineyard and built on terraced grounds. Ideally this would be perfect for any free lance worker or artist. The WI-FI connection at the house is excellent with very fast broadband. All new plumbing and electrics with a brand new roof done in traditional way with enamel on the tile to avoid moss collection. Possibilities to extend through the outdoor spa area could provide a very large second bathroom which has all four walls but needing enclosure and an insulated roof. The small indoor bathroom off the living room is quite adequate for current living. The attic above the utility room could be converted to a sleeping loft for children or kept as storage. The two wooden sheds can also be converted to a workshop or kept for wood and garden storage. This property is definitely a lock and go property. You can hire locals for cleaning, gardening, and any building at very reasonable rates.

Most living is outdoors and every space of the property has been built to purpose. The indoor space is compact and cosy for winter living unlike many holiday homes. This house is being sold due to family needs in Ireland which will leaves us very nostalgic after over 20 years of living in Greece. It is simply magic. We are accepting nearest offers on our property and pass this beautiful lifestyle onto some other adventuresome person to enjoy the house as we have.
