This area is well known for having some of the best Salmon Fishing in the World, Just before the end of this season a 35lb Salmon was caught on the Miramichi River, ( Season ends October 15th) There are also lots of interesting things to enjoy with a Salmon Fishing Museum, Canoeing, Doak's where anglers can get all their accessories, where many speciality flies for the Miramichi are tied locally, A Golfcourse which is only 3 miles away, also a supermarket for all those needs is also located closebye in Doaktown. For the more energetic there is a local stable with horse riding, ATV, or try cycling and if that does not suit then a good walk along the Sentinel Trail can be had. During the winter months ice hockey, curling, snowmobiling and skiing ( Crabbe Mountain) can be enjoyed.
On a more serious note there are local junior and senior schools, doctors and dentists surgeries, a hardware store, cafe's, church's and lots of facilities located in Doaktown and other villages locally.
Further afield is the Provincial Capital Fredericton which lays on the St John River, a lovely city with significant history and big city amenities, Two Universities, The Beaverbrook Art Gallery where a number of Sir Winston Churchill's paintings hang, a theatre, hotels, cinema, an annual harvest jazz & blues festival, cafe's, a weekly farmers market and many shops etc.
Miramichi City which is at the coastal end of the Miramichi River also has much history of boat building, fishing and sea going activities, an annual folk music festival, along with many diverse and interesting shops.
Places to enjoy for the wandering visitor: The Christmas Mountains, Charlottetown PEI ( Anne of Green Gables). Bay of Fundy ( Huge tides), St John, Miramichi City, St Andrews a seaside town, and the North Shore as these are very interesting areas of the Maritimes.
This 150 acre estate has some 30 acres of grassland, lots of mature forestry and wildlife.... A great place to see moose who love watery bogans, eagles, white tailed deer and all sorts of other Canadian flora and fauna. (Grants may be available from the Province for farming development of some of the land).. The Homestead Inn is a traditional Canadian country home with excellent facilities for paying guests with great food and accommodation and includes appliances, fixtures, fittings, drapes and carpets etc.....
