The Tuzla area is famous for its nature reserve and protected salt water lake which houses hundreds of beautiful pink flamingos and stunning Pelicans during the months of October to April. The nearby village of Bogaziçi holds an important place in history as the site of the ancient city of Bargilia. After exploring the unspoilt stone village, a swim in the clear blue water is perfect. Small fishing boats come and go throughout the day delivering their catch to restaurants on the shore where you can dine and relax overlooking the glittering Mandalya Bay. The other nearby village, Guvercinlik is typical of the sleepy villages scattering the peninsula, nestled in the vast sweeping bay embraced by untouched mountains. The Vita Park Golf course is also a feature of the area, with its fabulous surroundings and plush club house, it features two 18 hole golf courses. Gulluk, just 15 minutes from the golf course, is an attractive coastal town surrounded by the fig, citrus and pine topped hills of the Gulf of Mandalya. The Bay itself is protected by the outlying Dodecanese islands affording spectacular views. Originally a delightful fishing village the area is growing in popularity and yet steeped in history. Take a boat trip to the nearby Carian village of Iasos where recent excavations have discovered a Roman Town Hall, a Hellenistic Theatre, dwellings, and a fifth century city wall.
