ABOUT THE AREA

Granes is a small village in the haute vallee de la Aude. We are 8km from Quillan and similar distance from Esperaza, with  both towns having a good selection of shops and restaurants. Markets in Quillan are on Wednesday and in Esperaza on Sunday.   There are two good supermarkets.  The famous “Poulet Bicyclette” open air restaurant is within  walking distance (see Trip Advisor) from Granes.  Rennes le Chateau, of “Da Vinci Code” fame, is visible from nearby and is also within walking distance for the fit - otherwise it can be reached by a car ride via Couiza.  Granes also has an equestrian centre with extensive riding facilities.

Airports are at Carcassonne [50 km], Perpignan [72 km] and Toulouse [125] km.  Ski slopes are 1 hour away and beaches can be reached in approximately 1 hr 30 mins.
