ABOUT THE AREA
Toreilles is a Catalan village which has lost none of its character and charm over the years. It is characterised by narrow streets and old houses of brick and stone. The beach is protected from development and is 4 kilometres long. It has been awarded the European Blue Flag and is supervised, so is ideal for children. Within the village itself there is a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants, seasonal activities and regular markets.
For the active there is a wide range of nautical activities available as well as around 50 km of cycle tracks and good walking. The close proximity to the ski slopes of the Pyrenees means it is also open for winter sports and is not just a summer paradise. For the less active there are many traditional markets in the area selling local produce, excellent restaurants and numerous historical sites to explore.
The region is served by 5 airports (Perpignon, Carcasson, Beziers, Toulouse and, in Spain, Gerona). The autoroute network is good and the TGV travels from northern France to Perpignan.
