This delightful Breton cottage is situated in an idyllic location, just a short cycle ride from a village with basic shops, including an excellent boulangerie. The property comes with just under an acre of land, a workshop, stable and a separate chalet, which has a good letting track record. The cottage would make the perfect holiday bolt-hole.

The house is stone built and has a large, airy, double aspect sitting room, a simple kitchen and downstairs shower room, and one large bedroom. Both the sitting room and bedroom were originally two rooms and have been made into larger spaces. You could easily partition them off again, if you wished. Plumbing has been put into place for an upstairs, en suite bathroom. The floors are tiled downstairs and wooden upstairs, with wooden beams. 

There is an attached stone stable, which could be converted to create further living space.

There is a purpose built chalet in the garden. This is a large, wooden clad, insulated room with double-glazing, new shower, separate WC and basin and small kitchen area. This is successfully let for 250 Euros per week.

The chalet is attached to a workshop, which has a simple kitchen in a separate room at the back. It would not be difficult to make the workshop into a sitting room, which would then make the chalet a completely independent dwelling.

The large tree lined gardens are completely private and surround the cottage. There is a small pond and a separate paddock. The land totals approximately 4000m2 (approx 1 acre).

The large, graveled drive can accommodate several cars and gives access to the gardens and paddock. There is also a greenhouse and a couple of sheds.

The hamlet (with English and French neighbours) is set in the stunning Breton countryside and the double aspect sitting room looks out over fields. You can walk straight from the cottage along the lanes, small tracks and over the fields. It is great for cycling, too, and is close to the picturesque Nantes/Brest canal with flat towpaths.

Plouray (3km away) has a bread shop, general food stores, post office, newsagent, hairdresser, Mairie, pizzeria, petrol station, library and primary schools.

The property is 7 kms from the large town of Rostrenen, with all usual facilities including large supermarkets and bustling, weekly Tuesday market. 

The cottage is easily reached from ferries at Roscoff (1.25 hours), St Malo (2 hours) or Caen (3 hours). There are also airports at Quimper (45 mins), Brest (1 hour) and Dinan (1 hour 35 mins). 

This is a tranquil area with masses of wildlife. Red squirrels and pine martins scamper through the trees and you will often spot wild deer and the many hare that lope along the grass. The pond, though small, attracts frogs and toads, newts and birds. If you turn over a rock you may see a bright yellow salamander hiding underneath. 

There are several swimming lakes nearby, and also some for boating and windsurfing. If you fancy a day out, there are many historic little towns, such as Pont Aven, once home to post-impressionist artists, including Paul Gaugin. Quimper, Vannes, and Lannion, for example, boast medieval architecture, Quimperle is very quaint and Carnac has field after field of standing stones, which make Stonehenge look very small indeed. Long, deserted, white sand beaches and rocky coves are about 50 minutes away. There's also great surfing at La Torche. 

The owner bought the cottage originally to use as a holiday home but fell in love with it and decided to move permanently….
