There are central heating radiators in all rooms except the kitchen. All windows in the house are double glazed windows with a stone surround, and wooden shutters, and have marble sills inside. All windows are fitted with fly screens. All internal doors are hand made in solid Chestnut timber with traditional latch handles.
Under the house where the millstones used to be is the cantina, currently used for storage which and electric power and light.
A pleasant patio encompassed by a low fence has vines above providing gentle shading in summer; it has steps and a gradual slope to the cantina level. The patio gate leads onto a small rarely used lane leading to agricultural land and a river. On the other side of the lane is a stone built stable with former hay loft built up in brick with light and power, behind the stable is a brick built garage with up and over door, and a brick built lean-to building suitable for storage of garden tools and implements. There is off road parking for two cars. There is an outside sink, and a tap that takes its water from a well, and therefore free, is said to be the original water supply to the mill. It is used to irrigate the agricultural land below, a substantial area of land approx 2,600sq/m which is a disused vineyard at present but has great potential to be cultivated by someone interested in growing their own food. It and has several nut and fruit trees and a handy bamboo cluster.
A concrete slope leads to an upper terrace with an open sided wood store used to dry the wood for the log burning fires. From there, there is access to an old vineyard with some good views.
Vecchio Mulino is about one kilometre from the railway station, which has good parking facilities. The station is on the Aulla-Lucca line giving access to Cinque Terra, La Spezia, Genoa and Milan and other attractions in the Aulla direction. The line in the other direction goes to Lucca with its good shopping facilities and tourist attractions, and then beyond is Pisa with a rail connection to the airport.
Near the station is a small village, Pieve San Lorenzo with a general shop, butcher, hairdresser, restaurant, hardware shop and two bars.
Casola is a five minute drive away with further shops, hardware store, doctor, dentist, post office commune offices, and police station, bar, hairdresser and ceramic workshop selling hand made products made on the premises. Aulla is 20Km away by road.
The mill is attached to another smaller house, used as a holiday home by the previous owners' relatives who are very friendly, and can offer an insight into the past life of the buildings and lifestyle.
