What is a Golden Visa in Spain? The Golden Visa is a temporary residence that may be granted to individuals who are non EU/EFTA citizens. We did a few to Chinese buyers we met in Beijing last year and now enquiries form American citizens are the big thing. If you own a visa you can carry out in Spain certain types of investments, business or professional activities, (Chiropractors, Doctors professionals etc) or are transferred by their employer to Spain under certain circumstances. Maybe you should ask your employer to relocate you to La Zenia!! Why not we work in a location independent society these days.

The Golden Visa was introduced by the Spanish Government in 2013 but proved complicated, and was amended in July 2015 with the objective of making it easier and faster to grant them.

Residence permits may be granted to applicants who have no criminal record, have full private medical insurance cover, (1,000 per year through Ibex, La Zenia on average) sufficient economic resources as well as to all dependent family members. Family members are defined as applicant's spouse or cohabitating partner, children under or above the age of 18 years who remain dependent on the applicant's financial support and who have not formed an independent family unit themselves. All these individuals are eligible for reunification in Spain and may apply for their visa simultaneously with the applicant.
The initial visa lasts for 1 year, renewable twice more for further 2 years provided the ownership of the property in Spain is still retained. After these initial five years, it is possible to apply for an unlimited residency permit- you and your family will be almost Spanish by then!
After the period of just 10 years it would also be then possible to apply for Citizenship and also obtain a Spanish passport. A Spanish passport can be changed to any other country in Europe after that.
There is no minimum stay requirement in Spain.
Qualified family members could reside in Spain (e.g. children could be at university, school etc) while the main financial provider is in another country.
Multiple entry and re-entry is allowed into Europe.
Travel is permitted throughout the European Schengen area.
