It was given a Gothic make-over in the late nineteenth-century creating a charming residence. It remains an attractive feature in mature grounds on the Ballymahon Road to the north of Athlone and about five minutes' drive from the town centre and forms an interesting group with the gateway to the west. This was the family home of the Broderick Family a well-known local business family
It was once home of the well-known Irish novelist John Broderick, who wrote controversial and salacious novels (for the time) purporting to feature local people in compromising situations.
He sold the house in the late 80s to retire to Bath.
