Orde House dates back to the late 1800's when it was built to make the most of the stunning views out to the east over the Wye Valley to the famous Yat Rock. It is an imposing and spacious house which, in the last few years, has been totally refurbished and reunited with its grounds, so making it an important country house once again. As well as re-wiring, improved plumbing, insulation, new bathrooms and kitchen, an extension was added to the north wing to provide a fine drawing room and roof terrace above.
The house is approached from the lane through handsome automatic entrance gates set in stone walls and up a long curving drive to a parking area. The property is principally south/south east facing and immediately to the front is a large terrace/parking area with balustrades beyond and the large front lawn dominated by a massive beech tree and imposing steps down to the drive and grounds. Around to the north is a raised terrace with gravelling, paving stones and a pond and flanking the dirve is a gravelled formal garden with herbaceous beds and box hedging. A series of stone terraces and steps lead up the rear tarmac yard with the former coach house and stables which are now a double garage, tool shed and a pair of fuel stores. Beyond the drive, running off to the nroth is an orchard with fruit trees including cox, bramley, beauty of bath and victoria plum, the new championship size, all weather tennis court and a splendid summer house. Gently sloping grounds run on with a variety of specimen trees. The lower boundary is a formed by a semi mature wood with a host of native hardwoods including beech, oak, silver birch, eucalyptus and ash.
