Brief History
Derwydd Mansion first appeared in the history books in 1485 when the property was owned by Tudor Knight Sir Rhys ap Thomas. Henry Tudor was said to have sheltered at Derwydd on his way to Bosworth. The original Tudor mansion was in 1670 described as a house of 18 hearths, making it one of the largest in the county of Carmarthenshire. The South wing of the Tudor house was remodelled in 1820 and again in 1888 when the house was extended more than doubling its size. This work was carried out by Llandeilo architect David Jenkins. The Mansion is Grade 2 Listed building in addition there are a number of itemised internal and external features which are individually listed. Some of these include the plaster work in the study, stained glass windows in the entrance hallway, oak fireplaces & plaster work in the study and family room , walled garden and gazebo.
