Looking out from the front of their commanding home, towards the National Trust land opposite, they stand and watch the ponies for a while.
They love the serenity of their former mill home, as well as its privacy and leafy surroundings.
The couple bought the property, which dates back to between 1865 and 1885, as an investment project but, after living here for several months, realised it would be a wrench to leave.
We loved all the space here. The house has a total of 24 rooms and is set in over five acres of land, she said. There are stables and paddocks, where you can keep up to five horses, and we have about an acre, which is effectively an island, between a river and a stream.
The couple renovated the property, which is thought to have been a working mill, from top to bottom.
We wanted to keep as many of the original features as we could, while also making it into a family home. It still has its attractive cornicing, exquisite fireplaces and period shutters.
Some of the original sash windows reach to the ceiling - and bring the sunlight streaming in.
It is lovely to stand and enjoy all the beauty through the enormous windows we have here - we watch the birds in the trees and the ducks out on the pond, she added.
The beautiful home has so much to offer both inside and out. Its rooms can be bright and airy, as well as cosy and inviting.
We are often in the drawing room or the dining room, she said. With its multi-fuel stove, the drawing room is wonderful in the evening - but the light that comes through its windows in the daytime is also superb.
She added: We have a large Christmas tree in there every year by the window, looking shiny and twinkly from outside.
The Mill, which was built on a slope, has four storeys at the back and three at the front.
The master bedroom is on the third storey. It is light and spacious and has a working open fire, which can be lit, she said.
The property still has so much potential, she said. It would make a marvellous bed and breakfast, or guest house. Its location would render it highly appealing to birdwatchers, walkers and others who enjoy the great outdoors.
We also have a lower ground floor, with four rooms, which could be used for anything. It would be ideal as a gym or games area - or as an annexe for a teenager perhaps, she said.
This is such a large house. There is so much that someone else could do with it.
We are very sad to be leaving but my husband retired recently and it is time for a move. But we are very happy living in this area and we certainly do not want to go far.
This delightful home is accessed via an attractive pillared portico, which has slate steps rising to a pair of solid oak original church doors, opening into the central reception hall. The reception hall has a staircase ascending to the first floor, while a beautiful arched window on the landing allows an abundance of natural light to flood through. Two charming period doors with ornate panelled architrave are located on either side of the hall and lead to the drawing room and formal dining room. The drawing room is wonderful and is dominated by two stunning floor mounted sash windows with original fold away shutters, bathing this expanse with light. Proceeding in a westerly direction along the M4, take Junction 33 and take the first exit onto the A4232. Take the slip road signposted Culverhouse Cross, and at the roundabout take the first exit onto Cowbridge Road.
