The Story
Relaxing in the hot tub with friends or enjoying a summer barbecue against the backdrop of open fields, Paula and Ian Crane have made the most of the quiet perfection of life at their Hanslope home.
The couple have lived at the Cuckoo Hill property since it was first built and have relished its space and style, as well as its superb location.
What we loved about this particular house was the size of its rooms, Paula remembered. It was a big house and it had a large hallway and a separate dining room.

BY PERSONAL DESIGN

A light-filled home, with a ground floor that opened up beautifully on to its back garden, the property also overlooked fields at the back.
The couple knew they would wake up to green views in the morning and that life at the house would feel semi-rural.
When we first saw the house it had been built but not completed, she said. That was good for us because it meant we could have input into the style inside.
The Cranes, in fact, decided to employ an interior designer to help them give their home the finish it deserved. In keeping with its contemporary design, she kept it simple and to complement its position, brought in lots of natural hues.
She advised us to keep it quite neutral, with gardenia walls, and to bring in brown and beige shades, with a little bit of stronger colour, such as the red in the drawing room curtains, she said.

ENTERTAINING FRIENDS

Life in the house has worked well for the couple and their two children. There has been room to spread out and to welcome guests, as well as to eat and relax as a family.
I love the space we have here - the big hallway, the large kitchen and our huge bedroom, she said. My daughter has an en-suite bathroom, as do we, and our son has the third bedroom with the bathroom right next to it.
With five bedrooms in total, we can have people to stay very comfortably, and with good reception spaces, and plenty of parking, we can host parties quite easily.
She added: When we are entertaining, we tend to use the kitchen or the dining room.
We also like to sit out in the hot tub, in the courtyard, when we have friends over.

RURAL TRANQUILLITY

Despite being just 10 or 15 minutes from Milton Keynes, the semi-rural location of the Cuckoo Hill house has given the family all the joys of country living. From the house they can stroll down country lanes or walk in the nearby Salcey Forest.
This house has been ideal for us and it really is a delightful area in which to live, she said. It is easy to get to so many places from here and to enjoy the quiet setting and the views at the same time.


ACCOMMODATION
GROUND FLOOR

The welcoming reception hall enjoys wood block flooring and gives access to the reception rooms and the kitchen, while stairs rise to the first floor. To the left you will find a well presented cloakroom, along with the sleek dining room which offers views out to the front - a great place for entertaining. The kitchen/breakfast room has an extensive range of base and wall cabinets, with granite work surfaces providing plenty of space to prepare meals. Additionally, there is access via double doors out to the garden and a useful utility room. A great sized study is situated next to the kitchen, which boasts lovely vistas out to the garden and is perfect for those wanting to work from home. The third bedroom benefits from views to the side of the home and is set next to the family bathroom, a haven in which to relax and unwind. SETTING THE SCENE
The garden is very low maintenance, fully enclosed and mainly laid to lawn with mature planting, a terrace and a water feature.
My husband has created a fish pond and has also built beds for plants, she said. In the summer, these look quite colourful.
The garden is not overlooked and we have enjoyed sitting out there and having barbecues in the summer, she added.


WITHIN EASY REACH
Hanslope has a local cricket and football club and an attractive village hall, as well as a selection of pubs and local shops.

Hanslope is approximately 6 miles from the centre of Milton Keynes, 5 miles from Newport Pagnell and 5 miles from Towcester.
We are equidistant between Milton Keynes and Northampton, which is perfect, she said. It is easy to reach major roads, such as the M1, and to travel further afield as well.
Proximity to the M1 and M4 makes travel to London, Oxford and Birmingham simple.


DIRECTIONS:
Proceed northwest on the A5 and at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A508. Turn right onto Yardley Road and then take the first left toward Station Road, then continue straight onto Station Road. Proceed onto Hanslope Road, continue onto Castlethorpe Road and then turn left onto Cuckoo Hill Rise. The home is located to the end of the street.
