Location

Fort Augustus Abbey is located in the village at the south end of Loch Ness adjacent to the Caledonian Canal and midway between Inverness and Fort William on the A82. The Caledonian Canal runs through the Great Glen from Inverness and the Moray Firth at the north end to Fort William and Loch Linnhe at the south end on the west coast of Scotland. It was utilised for commercial shipping initially although these days it is mostly used for leisure craft, although fishing boats still use it to get from the east coast of Scotland to the fishing grounds on the west coast.

Directions

From Inverness, take the A82 along the shores of the world famous Loch Ness with its mystery and intrigue, passing through the village of Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston. As you enter the village of Fort Augustus, continue over the Caledonian Canal swing bridge and veer off to the left. The entrance to the abbey is on the left-hand side.
