Situation

Bunny Hall is located to the south of Nottingham off the A60 Loughborough Road. Bunny is an historic small village with excellent connections to Nottingham, Loughborough and Leicester and offers a variety of interesting properties, many designed by Sir Thomas Parkyns, the Architect of the Hall itself.

The M1 Motorway is easily accessible via the North Leicester Link. Communications are excellent with frequent rail service from Loughborough to London St. Pancras. Nottingham East Midlands Airport is some 9 miles (14.5km) distant.

Description

Bunny Hall is a magnificent Grade I listed C18 Country House. Re-modelled and restored to a very high standard by the current owners to now offer a gracious yet manageable property of generous proportions designed for modern family living. It enjoys a delightful setting along a tree lined driveway leading on to formal gardens. Driveway continuing round to rear courtyard area with vernacular style Coach House, garaging and storage facilities.

There is an additional private driveway leading to the rear courtyard area again with ornamental remote controlled gated entrance.

Nickolaus Pevsner writes in unusual glowing terms about both the Hall and Sir Thomas Parkyn, the Architect in his renowned collection of historic architectural guides The Buildings of England. He comments that - thanks to the wrestling Baronet, Bunny is one of the most rewarding villages in South Nottinghamshire.

Sir Thomas Parkyns was a remarkable character, collector of stone coffins, author of Latin Grammar, a trained lawyer and enthusiastic amateur wrestler, architect, - contriving and drawing all of his own plans - for farms on the estate.

One of the most notable features of the property is the historic North Wing of long chequered brick design with a tall narrow façade at the end crowned by a huge Elephantine semi circular pediment across the whole width and massively castellated tower above it.

On the ground floor the original open porch area has now been transformed into a stunning Porche Cochere with plate glass inset panels and doors and the creation of a large adjoining Orangery with finely detailed interior.

The three principal reception rooms lie across the principal elevation of the Hall with views across the formal gardens adjoining parkland and open countryside beyond. In addition to the Christians family kitchen room and sitting room, there is a secure access to an extensive leisure area carefully created to the ground floor of the North Wing with gymnasium, steam and sauna rooms and a large indoor heated pool with secure remote solid cover and separate Jacuzzi/spa pool area.

The principal upper floor is reached by a wide dog leg staircase with circular glazed frosted dome over allowing light to flood through to the hallway and the galleried landing areas. There are two additional staircases to the East and West Wings providing both internal and independent access to the upper floors.

In addition to the principal bedroom accommodation on the first floor there is a linked wing providing independent accommodation if required and on the second floor in addition to the cinema room and further bedroom accommodation for the main house there is a further self-contained apartment suitable as staff accommodation or again, available to be linked back into the main property.

The rear courtyard area offers a substantial vernacular styled modern garage, Coach House and storage complex.

In addition to the main formal renovated garden areas there is substantial open parkland and a spur road from the main entrance driveway leads to stable block and separate fenced paddock areas.

HISTORY
Listed Grade I being of architectural and historic interest, Bunny Hall was built between the years of 1720 and 1725. The Hall was designed by Sir Thomas Parkyns (1662 - 1741), locally well known as an Architect and Wrestler. Sir Thomas is regarded by many to be the father of modern wrestling and the family crest may be seen on the northern elevations of the magnificent castellated tower structure.

The Hall was enlarged in the late C18 with further additions being made in the C19 by the second Lord Radcliffe. Of particular note are the fine receptions rooms, each facing south with magnificent French windows overlooking the carefully reinstated and established gardens. The gardens and grounds provide an ideal setting for a house of such calibre and the current owners have carried out a careful measured renovation of both the house and grounds.
