The study was originally designed as a studio with a magnificent large ornamental window facing north towards the Moray Firth and beyond. It also has a large fireplace, high mantelpiece and display alcove. On the south-west corner of the first floor a guest suite including a bedroom and bathroom overlooks the garden to the south and west. Historical Note:
Beldorney was built in 1902 for Frank Fairlie, Captain of Nairn Golf Club, whose initials, FAF together with those of his wife, Ursula Maria Gordon (UMG), are carved into the lintel over the front door. Designed by a pupil of Lutyens, the Grade B listed house is described as "Cotswold Revival" and constructed of mellow pink sandstone. The name Beldorney was taken from one of the Gordon family homes in Aberdeenshire, Beldorney Castle near Huntly. Frank Fairlie achieved great sporting acclaim, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon, an international cricketer and scratch golfer, while his son, Gerald Fairlie, a friend of Noel Coward, is immortalised as the author of the Bulldog Drummond books. Coward was reputedly a frequent visitor to Beldorney.



Beldorney is situated within a short distance of Nairn town centre. Known for its dry and sunny climate, Nairn is a vibrant Victorian town and a popular holiday destination with two championship golf courses. It has a good range of shops and professional services as well as two museums, an art gallery, antique shops and excellent restaurants. The town also has a sports centre, tennis club, swimming pool, riding centre and cricket pitch. The harbour is home to a small fishing fleet, marina and sailing club. In addition to the two Nairn courses, golf is also conveniently available at Royal Dornoch, Spey Valley and the Castle Stuart Golf Links. There is salmon fishing on the Rivers Nairn, Findhorn and Spey and shooting is readily available on local estates. The beautiful Spey Valley with its Whisky Trail and the ski slopes at the Cairngorms and The Lecht are all within easy driving distance. Inverness provides a range of retail parks and supermarkets as well as many entertainment, cultural and medical facilities expected of the Highland Capital. Inverness Airport has regular daily flights to London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and other UK destinations. The Aberdeen to Inverness railway line stops at Nairn and there are regular services (including sleepers) from Aberdeen and Inverness to the South.

To the north of the house there is a complex of modern outbuildings comprising a large double-glazed garden room with wood-burning stove, triple garage, workshop with sink and fuel store, all of timber construction with corrugated metal sheet roofing. Alongside this building is a 12' x 8' greenhouse. Several outside taps supply water for gardening and other purposes. The gardens are an undoubted feature of Beldorney with a wide variety of established trees, (including a walnut) rhododendrons, azaleas and assorted perennial plants providing an almost full year of gardening interest. Steps lead down from the gravelled terrace to well stocked herbaceous borders and formal lawns interspersed with various ornamental trees. The grounds also include an enclosed vegetable garden with a soft-fruit cage and a relatively young enclosed orchard with victoria plum, pear and apple trees. There are considerable areas of natural woodland with prolific lily-of-the-valley on a path leading to a gate providing access to Delnies wood. Sheltered by high rhododendrons and screened from the house is a swimming pool and an all weather tennis court. There is another area of grass suitable for either lawn tennis or croquet. On the north side of the house there is an old curling rink surrounded by rhododendron bushes. The gardens have been designed for ease of maintenance with large lawned areas and paths cut through the natural woodland of Scots Pine, Larch, Douglas Fir, Birch and Rowan trees providing complete seclusion.
