Thistlegate stands within the small traditional village of Field Aston, overlooking the village green, whilst being close to the historic market town of Newport.

The village benefits from an active local community and popular pub 'The Fox', while Newport is renowned for its excellent schools boasting the highly regarded Haberdashers' Adams' Grammar School, Newport High School for Girls and Castle House Junior School. There are good local amenities including a Waitrose supermarket. The county town of Shrewsbury, noted for its wide variety of shops and restaurants, also has a number of well considered schools including Prestfelde, The High School and Shrewsbury School.

Thistlegate is within 9 miles of the M54 which connects to the M6/M6 toll enabling daily commuting to Birmingham and a number of Midland business centres. Stafford Station (13 miles) offers direct line travel to London Euston (one hour twenty minutes) whilst regional airports include Birmingham and Manchester.

Thistlegate is a charming Grade II listed village house which combines period detail with contemporary living space, complemented by a range of versatile outbuildings and gardens.

Once a coaching inn known as The Wheatsheaf, Thistlegate is thought to date from 1701. Having evolved over the centuries, the present owners have sympathetically extended Thistlegate to offer modern comfortable family living.

A further approx. 9 acres of paddocks are available by separate negotiation.

The house retains immense character and charm embracing many of the original features including quarry tiled floors, exposed beams and in the dining hall a large inglenook fireplace, now fitted with a woodburning stove. Steps lead along a passageway to the former kitchen, now used as a utility, and the large breakfast/family room which was added in 2006 from where double doors open to the wide terrace and garden beyond. Stairs lead to a wide split level landing, over the earliest end of the house are three good size bedrooms each with the original doors, two of which feature original fireplaces whilst the family bathroom features exposed studwork. Steps lead to the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and walk in wardrobe, two further bedrooms and family bathroom.

Outside a large gravel sweep lies to the side of the house providing access to the traditional garaging and further outbuildings. The gardens are mainly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs opening to views of unspoilt Shropshire countryside.

From the M54, junction 3 follow the A41 north signposted to Whitchurch for 7.8 miles and on reaching the roundabout, take the first exit onto the Newport Bypass/A518. Follow the road for 0.5 miles and on reaching the second roundabout take the first exit signposted to Chetwynd Aston. Follow the road for 0.3 miles and turn left down a no through road signposted to Field Aston. Follow the lane to the grass triangle and take the right hand branch, Thistlegate will be found straight ahead.
