The Story
It was about 40 years ago now that the owner of The Quick Set Barn first visited the property near Fetcham and realised the conversion was exactly what he was seeking.
He loved its unique character and its fabulous gardens, as well as its superb setting, where he knew he could enjoy peace and privacy.
I just fell in love with it, he said. I loved the original beams in the drawing room and then the large master bedroom. I also knew it would be a great place for my family to come and visit.
Since then, the beautiful garden, which has been landscaped, and features a pond and waterfall, has been his pride and joy.
He has enjoyed spending hours maintaining it and watching his grandchildren play out when they were younger.
I have rarely been away from the house because I love this place so much, he said. I have seen other people go on holiday regularly and not felt the need to go away myself.

SCENIC SURREY

Thought to have been converted in the late 1950s, or early 1960s, and once part of the farm that worked the surrounding land, The Quick Set Barn was also in a perfect area for the owner.
The house is in a beautiful and very sought-after area - Norbury Park is opposite and places like Box Hill are nearby - and yet it is close to Leatherhead and from here it is very easy to travel into London, he said.
He added: This is a great place to be if you like walking, fishing or playing golf.

WELCOMING SPACES

The picturesque home, with its cedar-wood cladding, still retains its barn-like appeal, with its exposed timber beams and brickwork, inside and out.
The drawing room has huge original beams, he said. There is also a gas fire in here but it could be made into a proper fire should someone wish to change it.
This reception room is perfect for family gatherings. It has been the ideal place for the owner's grandchildren to play games and for him to relax quietly with his newspaper or a good book.
There is also another room, which is my dining room, he said. This room could be another bedroom, however. The space here is very flexible.

WONDERFUL LIFE

The master bedroom is also a good size, and would have space for the creation of a dressing room or en-suite shower room.
There is still a lot of scope for changing this house. I made a spiral staircase and created a room in the loft, which I have used as an office. But there is still space up there to extend, should anyone else wish to do so, he said.
He added: There is also the old granary store, which is up off the ground on mushroom stilts.
This is currently used for storage but it could be an ideal office or games room. There is plenty of room in there.
The Quick Set Barn has given the current owner a near perfect lifestyle, relishing its outdoor spaces as much as its internal ones.
It has been superb for me, he said. I have had everything here that I ever wanted.

Accommodation
GROUND FLOOR

The Quick Set Barn is simply delightful and is brimming with character but is in need of some modernisation. The entrance hall leads to the kitchen which has a front aspect window and a side door guiding out to The Granary. Further along to the left is the bathroom and there is also a dining room leading into bedroom two, with a staircase to the study which has the potential to be developed further. To the right is the main bedroom and you will also locate a spacious living room which boasts striking oak beams to the walls and ceiling, along with a feature fireplace. Additionally rear aspect windows frame views over the garden. The master bedroom is set on the ground floor and offers well proportioned accommodation with built in wardrobes and a door to garden. Opposite is the dining room which has space for a table and chairs and access to bedroom two.

Setting the Scene
The private driveway leading to The Quick Set Barn was the original main entrance for The Manor house, now used by The Quick Set Barn and one other property. The quirky Granary is to the right of the barn and stands on concrete shaped mushrooms, with parking for two cars. To the left hand side of the barn is a private driveway with ample parking, guiding to the second barn which is used as a large double garage with rear access to the garden. The garden is generous in size and very secluded, offering a delightful pond with a water feature, wonderful shrubs, flower borders and a large lawn. The terrace is situated outside the living room and is perfect for al fresco dining
