Henley Manor
Largely Tudor with medieval fragments, Henley Manor originally formed part of the demesne of the Kings of Wessex. King Alfred bequeathed the land to his son on his death in 899 and following the Norman Conquest the Manor came into the possession of William the Conqueror.

Since then, it has mainly been in the ownership of four families, Montague, Wyke, Henley and Poulett.

William Montague was MP for Weymouth 1449-50 and Andrew Henley was MP for Portsmouth in 1660. He also held the distinguished position of Commander of the Sewers, Bedford level 1662-63.

The Estate was purchased in 1700 by Lord John Poulett who was created Viscount Hinton St George and Earl Poulett by Queen Anne in 1706. In 1710 he was appointed First Commissioner of the Treasury and in 1711 declared Lord Steward of Her Majesty's household. The Manor was held in his family's ownership for the next 200 years. In 1945 it was purchased by ICI for the "investigation and demonstration of agricultural methods".

However, the purchase of Henley Manor in 1999 by Pembroke Properties marked a new era. The company's passionate commitment to retaining and revitalizing the essential character of the buildings coupled with the planning and conservation restrictions ensured that Henley Manor's architectural integrity is now secured.

Once at the heart of a thriving community before its protracted decline in the 20th Century, the Henley Manor Estate has been restored by skilled craftsmen and updated with contemporary interiors to create a unique blend of historical Somerset architecture with sophisticated 21st Century living.

The Property
The Flax House is a very attractive and deceptively spacious former barn which was skillfully converted just 3 years ago and under the same ownership since new. It has main walls of solid stone with traditional timber sealed windows under a slate roof. The extensive accommodation is arranged over 3 floors and all the rooms enjoy distant views over the surrounding countryside. The excellent specification includes oil fired central heating, well appointed kitchen with oil fired aga, limestone floors to the ground floor, quality bathroom suites and bespoke joinery.

There is also a delightful south facing and private walled garden together with private parking.

The estate as a whole is near completion and provides a tranquil place to live but is easily accessible. The Flax House provides the opportunity even for permanent living or equally good as a lock-up and go pied-a-terre.
