Description & History
Old Cloth Hall is a magnificent timber framed Grade II* listed residence originating from the 15th century when Cranbrooks great broadcloth industry was at its peak. This transformed and brought prosperity to the town which is reflected in the magnificence of the Parish Church of St Dunstans, the Cathedral of the Weald and surviving medieval weavers houses and cloth halls.

Old Cloth Hall is a particularly fine example and the property presents red brick and tile hung elevations with curved braces to the first floor housing leaded light windows, all under plain tiled hipped roofs housing dormer windows and a cat-slide to the rear. Each aspect of this picturesque property displays individual architectural and the jettied frontage is enhanced by a splendid Tudor arched entrance with original boarded and ribbed door. The fact that the house, despite its history, has facilitated recent internal upgrades creates opportunities for further works (subject to planning). Planning permission was granted in 2001 to enlarge the current ground floor accommodation (see Agents Notes below).

The well proportioned and spacious accommodation is arranged over three floors together with a useful cellar below, extending to about 6,451 sq ft. Internally, the property displays a wealth of intrinsic architectural features, including leaded light windows, fine exposed beams and splendid fireplaces, oak panelling, exposed floor-boards, parquet flooring and latch doors along with evidence of original wattle and daub. There are with surprisingly lofty ceiling heights for a building of this age and many of the rooms are double aspect providing delightful garden views. Subject to a range of refurbishment works, the house benefits from a host of modern conveniences including an oak fitted kitchen with granite worktops and quality integral appliances and luxuriously appointed bathrooms, with this enviable setting and beautiful gardens to provide a simply delightful family home.
