THE STORY
The owners look out through the double aspect kitchen windows, with the swimming pool to one side and the tennis court on the other.
When we first saw the property all those years ago in 1987, we fell in love with it right away,
The house has a long gravel drive and a beautiful, large garden with trees all around the edge - I think we decided we wanted to buy it before we even saw inside.
But now the couple's children have grown up and are pursuing careers in London, they have decided it is time to move on.
It's just the two of us here now and we feel it's time for another family to take over the house. We've had a very happy time here - it really has been a wonderful place for the children to grow up.

A FAMILY AFFAIR

Since moving in, the couple have extended and modified the hall.
When you come through the front door, you now walk into a big entrance hall, where a feature staircase is set in the middle,
The colour scheme in the house is light, with the hall and drawing room decorated in a Farrow & Ball shade.
The airy, six bedroom property also includes a spacious drawing room, large dining room and comfortable kitchen. There is also an annexe, with the sitting room used as their family room and where the owners spend most evenings.

The family room is a very cosy, light room with a double aspect on to the garden. It contains a television, bookshelves and pianola but in the past our sons had a drum kit and guitars in there
The family room was the children's playroom when they were small and, at that time, evenings were spent in the drawing room.

DINING IN STYLE

The L-shaped kitchen is another room where the couple spend a lot of time.
It is a wonderful place to sit and eat, and there is enough room around the table for eight people, he said. You really do get a wonderful view of the garden from this room.
The bright dining room, featuring a bay window offers space for 12 people around the table.
We always have family Christmases in here, he added. It is a lovely room for dining with friends and family.

ENDLESS ENTERTAINING

Over the years, the family have held many special events in the house, including their daughter's wedding last summer.
We put a marquee on the grass tennis court in the garden and welcomed 150 people that day,
The outdoor pool has been a real source of fun for the family throughout the summer months and, because it is heated, it offers an extended swimming season that runs from the beginning of May to October.
In the summer time we have many tennis and swimming parties. The swimming pool has a nice big terrace around it so you can eat by the pool. This was a regular occurrence when the children were young.


ACCOMMODATION
Ground Floor

A canopied entrance porch leads through to the main hallway where you will notice the charming central staircase. The drawing room is a lovely light and airy room with a large bay window. Views from the drawing room overlook the inviting rear garden, with doors that will lead you out onto the terrace which runs full length across the back of the house, perfect for letting the summer sun into the home. This room also has an open fire for those cosy winter evenings in. The dining room also has a large bay window with lovely views over the garden and a door through to the kitchen. A bright and character filled area, the L-shaped kitchen boasts fitted wall and base cabinets and a breakfast area with sliding doors onto the terrace. There is also access through to the large family room which has double doors out to the garden. In a superb location, the property is set on a private road and yet is in the centre of historic Winchester.
I worked at the hospital in Winchester and walked there as it was just a 10-minute stroll. The house is also within walking distance of all the sights in Winchester. These sights include an excellent selection of high street and independent shops, restaurants and bars, coffee shops, library, theatre, cinema and pubs.

Within walking distance of the property is a small parade of shops and a bus stop. There are a good selection of schools, both state and private - Stanmore Primary School, Kings School, Peter Symonds Sixth Form College, Pilgrims, Winchester College and St Swithun's. There is also the University of Winchester and Winchester School of Art.


DIRECTIONS
From M3 Southbound Junction 11 - From the slip-road traffic lights turn right under the motorway and then bear left. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit and again at the next roundabout the 3rd exit onto St Cross Road. Continue down St Cross Road turning left onto Ranelagh Road, under the railway onto Airlie Road and turn left onto Sleepers Hill. Continue up the hill and the property will be found on the right hand side.
