This grade II listed property once formed part of a fortified farm steading known as West Farm. The original Pele dates back to between 1550 and 1600, while the adjoining shelter sheds are circa 1860, with a late 19th-century byre addition. Today the building offers spacious accommodation over three floors and a host of period features.

Entrance is into a beautifully light and lofty reception hall. This contemporary infill has feature roof trusses and stunning exposed stonework which once served as the external wall of the original Pele. From here, an ornate carved door opens into the cavernous sitting room with its magnificent arched ceiling and deep window recesses which stand testament to the building's previous use as a former cow byre.

A pleasant conservatory also opens off the hall and provides a delightful summer room with views of the garden, as well as plenty of scope for entertaining and formal dining.

The cosy kitchen is large enough for a table, making it the perfect spot for breakfasting and informal dining. It is fitted with wooden wall, base and larder units beneath contrasting worktops, a built-in oven and an electric Aga. Space exists for a large freestanding fridge/freezer and for a dishwasher.

Close by, the handy utility room houses a boiler, as well as a washing machine and dryer. It provides access to the garden through a stable door.

Two double bedrooms can be found on the first floor, both with striking period fireplaces reputed to have been provided by Lord Armstrong for family members who once lived in the property.

The master bedroom also has fitted wardrobes and an ensuite shower room, while the L-shaped second bedroom is currently used as a charming upstairs sitting room. And it's easy to see why, as it offers stunning views out over open countryside to the hills beyond. A family bathroom with a bath, shower cubicle and a spacious storage cupboard, a designated home office and a useful workstation area complete the first floor accommodation.

From the landing, a second staircase leads up to the top floor which was a later addition and probably dates from about 1650-1700. This floor contains two generous bedrooms which are served by a family shower room. Both bedrooms still have period fireplaces.

The Pele is situated within the attractive village of Thropton. The village itself provides a range of local amenities, including two pubs (both of which serve food), a village hall, a general store and post office, as well as a petrol station and garage.

The nearby market town of Rothbury is situated approximately two miles to the east and offers a wide range of facilities and shops. The property is also within easy access of Alnwick and Morpeth, both of which have close proximity to mainline stations which provide regular Intercity train services to Newcastle, Edinburgh and London King's Cross.

To the front of the property a pretty garden is enclosed by a stone wall with a lawn and well-stocked herbaceous borders. A stone path leads past a small wildlife pond and on to the east-facing side garden. This area enjoys the morning sun and has been turned into a productive kitchen garden with numerous beds and a greenhouse.

The rear courtyard garden is very private and sheltered. It is laid mostly to lawn with a generous sun terrace for outdoor dining and entertaining. Two large traditional outbuildings are also attached to the property. These currently provide plenty of storage space but could equally be converted into spacious living accommodation, or a separate annexe (subject to the necessary consents).

To the right of the property a gravel drive leads to a parking area and a stone-built detached double garage with electric doors. This houses the oil tank and provided further storage space.
