The Story
The local story goes that the home of Wanda and David Harris was built by the master mason responsible for building work at Bletchley Park.
During World War II Bletchley Park became Prime Minister Winston Churchill's Secret Intelligence Headquarters, where the famous code breakers worked tirelessly to crack Hitler's secret messaging codes.
People living around here and the previous owner told us that the master mason built our house in 1897 to live in and he also built a row of cottages close by for his workers, said Wanda.
And the beautiful, Victorian home, which has generously-proportioned rooms and exquisite period features, is also known locally as the former home of a model steam engine enthusiast, who created a track in his garden that local children would ride on.
But for the Harris family, it has simply been home for the past 25 years.
We liked the gardens and the old coach house, which became an ideal space as a playroom for our two boys, said Wanda. We have lots of very special memories to take away with us.

SPLENDID PROPORTIONS

The beautiful, Victorian home sits perfectly in its manicured gardens. The family love the size of the house, which has four generously proportioned bedrooms, two bathrooms, drawing room, dining room, family room, kitchen, utility and sun room, as well as its location.
Since moving in, the family have made their own mark on the house by re-decorating throughout and putting in a new, contemporary-style white kitchen earlier this year.
They also revamped both the bathrooms, giving them distinctly different styles.
The downstairs bathroom has pine-clad walls and is reminiscent of a Swedish sauna room, while the upstairs bathroom has been finished in a soft grey.

PERIOD FEATURES

The couple have decorated and maintained the house, and ensured characteristics from its Victorian past are still visible.
In the kitchen are reminders of the old servants' bells and elsewhere there are leaded windows and original cornicing and skirting.
Visitors to the house are greeted in the impressive entrance hall, which features original terracotta tiling and a fireplace.
It looks lovely at Christmas time when we put a tree up in the hall, said Wanda.
The large hall has also made a fabulous entertaining space and is ideal for people to spill out into after sitting down to a meal together in the dining room.
We have hosted some large parties here over the years, said Wanda. We have seated 25 people in the dining room and had 70 here for a special fund-raiser.
However, the elegant dining room is not just reserved for entertaining - most evenings the couple like to eat dinner in there by themselves or with family.
It is our favourite room because it is warm and comfortable. We enjoy having candlelit dinners and just talking for hours, she said.

SUNSHINE ROOM

Both the dining room and the bright, spacious drawing room overlook the garden.
The sun room, which is accessed via the dining room, makes a great retreat for either morning coffee or for sitting to enjoy the garden views when the weather is not so good.
Now the couple's two sons have flown the nest, the family room has been turned into a joint study: We have our own computers in that room. He is a PC man and I like my Mac, but we often sit in their together to work on them, she laughed.
However, now it is just the two of them living in the house, they have finally reached the difficult decision to sell.
Both the boys are devastated that we are going to sell the house they have grown up in, but as my husband is set to retire soon, we both feel it is time to find something a little smaller now, she said. But this has been a wonderful family home.


ACCOMMODATION
GROUND FLOOR

From the attractive elevations an entrance porch draws you into the reception hall with access to most rooms. The bright kitchen is to the right and has been stylishly finished with a range of white cabinets that are topped by black work surfaces. The room enjoys a double aspect with views over the courtyard and driveway respectively. There is also access to the large utility room, pantry and well presented downstairs bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and three piece suite including bidet. Returning to the hall, you note the large study with attractive double doors that lead outside, while to the left is the elegant dining room. Ideal for entertaining guests, this room has a bay window and an easy flow into the conservatory which in turn has external access to the front. Last, but by no means least, the drawing room is a generous space that retains a very warm and welcoming feel. It too has a large bay window overlooking the front garden and an original fireplace.

FIRST FLOOR

SETTING THE SCENE
The house is situated on a corner plot. A large, gravel driveway leads up to the house and on the left a tall, Canadian spruce greets visitors.
There is garden all around the house, with the best views from the drawing room and dining room windows, which overlook the lawn and a fabulous magnolia tree.
There are two terraces - the main one is outside the dining room and kitchen, where a table and chairs have been arranged for al fresco dining.

The Church Green Road house is located in Old Bletchley and is just a seven-minute walk from the railway station, which provides services into London's Euston Station taking about 40 minutes.
The town of Bletchley is well-stocked with local amenities including a supermarket and chain stores.

The house is only a 10-minute drive into Milton Keynes, while the nearest airport is at Luton, which takes about half an hour to 40 minutes to reach by car.
The M1 motorway is just 15 minutes' drive away from the house and London can be reached by car in just over an hour.
The locality is awash with leisure facilities including nearby Woburn Abbey and Safari Park, and Bletchley Park itself, which is now a museum.


DIRECTIONS:
From the M1 motorway exit at junction thirteen and at the roundabout take the second exit and then a slight left toward the A421. Continue straight on the A421 and proceed across nine roundabouts. Make a slight left onto Denbigh Hall Drive then turn left to remain on Denbigh Hall Drive. Turn right onto Whaddon Way and then make a left onto Rickley Lane. Take the right turn onto Church Green Road where the house can be found on the right.
