HISTORICAL NOTES This very fine mid 18c double depth weaver's house retains the set-back mullions of its weavers' windows on ground and first floors, as well as its stairs window above the quoined central door.
Noticeable is the sill banding at first floor level - A status symbol indicating the upper floor, when many single story houses open to the roof still remained in existence.
The fine moulded stone gutters are surmounted by ashlar cornice frieze blocks. This was intended to make the house look more modern and added in the Regency period c 1820 - 1830, when the internal ceiling plasterwork and some internal joinery was updated - the property retaining its fine Georgian woodwork, doors and ceiling cornices.
This plain weaver's house conceals this later, more lavish interior, which would have cost a great deal at the time.
