Full description

Tenure: Freehold

Looking for a country retreat? Bolt hole from a busy week? Retirement base to enable you to walk or cycle the Dales? Holiday investment let to supplement the pension? This might be for you. In quiet and tranquil Cowgill with the sheep and wildlife for company and stunning views of the viaduct, a detached well loved period cottage.

Within the same family's ownership since 1986, Slingsby Barn was originally two cottages and was combined in that year to the present arrangement. There's still two staircases and no shared landing so the present layout would suit multi generational living. It's all about potential and position here. Plenty of character with beams, period doors, exposed trusses, exposed stone work and a lovely wood strip floor in the dining kitchen the bones are all there to work on. The position is great - within a small grouping of five houses there's a sense of community but with a substantial (c. 0.31 acre) garden bordering open fields there is a great openness and privacy about the location, whether you're looking at the natural world of the unfolding valley or the majestic man-made splendour of the viaduct (watch out for the steam trains and remember to wave!) it's a treat. If you like your wildlife watch out for the birds and the red squirrels.

Mains electric, private spring fed water (shared with four neighbours), drainage to a private septic tank located within the boundaries, LPG central heating as well as some storage heaters. Hot water from boiler, back boiler and immersion heater. Approach via Dent and Cowgill (where you'll find The Sportsman's Inn), through Ingleton and Chapel le Dale or from Hawes. From Ingleton is our favourite as it's a great driving road - drive through Ingleton and up the back signposted Hawes. After passing the Ribblesdale Viaduct (and The Station Inn at Ribblehead) keep an eye out for a turning left signposted Dent. Turn here and cross the wild and wonderful moorland. Drop down, under the second viaduct and drive alongside one of the prettiest rivers, as the road turns sharply to the left over the bridge, turn to the right. Slingsby Barn is the last house on the left in the small grouping of five properties.
