The owners of the East Green Close property enjoy nothing more than spending time together with friends and relatives.
They chose the spacious, six-bedroom modern house, with an annexe, to be the heart of their extended family - and it has been a simply superb place for welcoming everyone into.
The house, however, is also great for relaxing quietly in. It is the perfect home in which to sit peacefully on the terrace for lunch, or to pause at the huge window on the landing to admire the expansive views.
I love looking out to the trees and listening to the birds, said the owner. But it is also a wonderful home for having lots of people in.
We needed a big house and room to entertain. We like the privacy and it's so easy to travel to London.

CREATIVE IN THE KITCHEN

The extensive kitchen and breakfast area is great for lively occasions, according to the owners.
It is a fabulous kitchen. I wanted a very big oven because we cook a lot of different food at one time, and large sinks for lots of pots and pans. With the dark granite and the wooden cabinets it is just right, she said.
It is big but everything is within easy reach, it has been designed so well.
The family typically eats in the breakfast area, sitting around the table and discussing plans or catching up with the news on the television.
There is a useful hatch to the dining room too, which they use for more formal gatherings. They can open the dining room doors to the garden for a relaxed, open-air feel, or enjoy the formality of the rich maroon, gold's and ornate inlaid screen.
It is a delightful room and we do like the views across the garden.

FINISH WITH A FLOURISH

After moving here three years ago, the owners have been gradually introducing a warm mixture of rich and soft colours, and sumptuous furnishings.
It is important to get the feel of a place. The rooms are vast, and they are grand, but it is relaxing here. It is a beautiful place to live, she said.
They have combined the practicalities of a busy family and entertaining life with their love of attractive fabrics and intricate details to create a luxurious feel, which also works for everyday life.
Finishing touches include the splendid furniture and ornate silk blinds and curtains with ivory and gold embroidery in the formal drawing room. The family sitting room has a more relaxed feel.
They are both lovely rooms, it is good to have them so different, she said.

While they love the drawing room with its open views across the garden, for family occasions and parties, the sitting room is where they settle at the end of the day, perhaps putting on a film: It is good to relax together, she added.

BIRDSONG

Their home may be where friends and relatives choose to gather and enjoy the warm welcome but it is a wonderful house when all is quiet too.
It is such an excellent place to live - I love to sit outside on the terrace and have tea, and hear all the birds singing, she said.
Family and guests appreciate the tranquil bedrooms too. They use one as an additional study. The guest bedroom, with its Juliet balcony and views of the trees, is a particular favourite.
It has a glorious view. It is like you are sitting in a forest, she said.


ACCOMMODATION
GROUND FLOOR

Electric gates provide access to this handsome home and a large driveway offers plenty of space for cars. A separate pathway guides to the front door which then opens into the bright reception hall. Situated to the left are three well proportioned reception rooms, the first of which is the formal sitting area which boasts a feature inglenook fireplace creating a warm and cosy ambience, while three double doors open out to the attractive garden. Moving on, you will find a delightful study with a storage cupboard and double aspect views, a great place for those wanting to work from home. It is fabulous, said one of the owners.
They have kept the private garden mainly laid to lawn, finding it ideal for children to play. With mature trees and a couple of steps leading from the terrace to the lawn, there is the potential for a variety of planting. They have planted roses and spring bulbs, and can imagine keen gardeners filling it with shrubs, flowers and herbs.


WITHIN EASY REACH
There is a quiet community feel to the village of Shenley Church End, but at the same time it is just a few minutes from the vibrancy and buzz of Milton Keynes.
One of the owners commutes to work and can be in the centre of London within an hour, including a most pleasant walk to the station. There are also plenty of shops nearby, along with supermarkets, a pub and bars.
It is a very serene area with fields around us but it is excellent for transport, for shops and schools.

The house is about 10 miles away from junction 13 of the M1 and there is good access to mainline railway links at Central Milton Keynes and Bletchley. Various A roads are also within easy reach.


DIRECTIONS:
From the M1, exit at junction 14 and at the roundabout take the third exit onto A509. At the next roundabout take the third exit onto Portway. Go through the next nine roundabouts then at the following roundabout take the second exit onto Portway, heading to Milton Keynes/Loughton/Great Holm. Proceed through the next roundabout. Make a slight left onto Daubeney Gate and then turn left onto Daubeney Gate. Turn right onto Vache Lane and then take the first left onto Oakhill Road. Turn left once you have reached the entrance to East Green Road, the house will be at the end of the cul-de-sac.
