It is situated on the west bank of the River Great Ouse between Denver and Littleport and has the only road crossing of the river between these two points and is a popular spot for fishing and boating. The village is part of Hilgay Parish and contains a primary school, church and bus service.

Leave Downham Market via the A10 towards Ely. Turn right signposted Ten Mile Bank onto Modney Hall Road. Follow around over the bridge and over the set of traffic lights onto Station Road.
