Description
Balbie Farm is a mixed stock and arable farm with a range of farm buildings. The farm has been in the ownership of the vendors for 45 years.

Balbie has an attractive situation and a key feature is the expansive outlook both to the north and south.

The land at Balbie Farm rises from 115 metres on the northern boundary, with a high point of 197 metres at Baspard Hill in the centre of the farm. It is mostly classed as grade 3 by the James Hutton Institute.

Balbie extends in total to about 173.10 acres. This land comprises 91.97 acres of arable/grass leys, 73.29 acres of permanent pasture, and 7.84 acres of miscellaneous.

The fields are generally of a good workable shape and size and are all easily accessed via the internal farm road. They are enclosed by stock-proof fences.

Farming System
A herd of circa 130 dairy cows were previously run at Balbie; however these were sold and replaced with a suckler cow herd. The farming enterprise has been scaled back in recent years and presently it carries a herd of 40 suckler cows, with calves sold at around 10 months. Silage is also baled on the farm for home consumption and ewe hoggs are wintered.
