4 bedroom semi-detached house for saleChilmington Green, Great Chart, Ashford, Kent
Guide Price £625,000
Old Chilmington is Grade II Listed as being of great historic interest. The main elevation is of red brick on a base of stone with a tile hung first floor, believed to have been replaced in the 17th century. The heavily timbered principal rooms have high ceilings for the period. Of particular interest are the painted ceiling timbers with black and white herringbone patterns, believed to date from circa 1500 as suggested by Hasted in his 'History of Kent'. Period features abound throughout the property and include a ragstone wall and broadgauge floorboards. The property was originally moated and part of this remains, providing an interesting vista to the front of the property.
The accommodation is arranged to provide a generous drawing room and adjacent dining room, both with heavily timbered ceilings and fireplaces. There is a spacious kitchen/breakfast room with a large inglenook fireplace. The utility room completes the accommodation on the ground floor.
The first floor can be approached either by a late Medieval staircase leading to the master bedroom or, alternatively, by the more formal Regency staircase, which rises from opposite the front door to the main landing. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room, and two bedrooms share a bathroom. The second floor has exposed timbers including a splendid crown post, and is currently arranged to provide a further two bedrooms with generous storage, one of which is being used as a bedroom/study.
It should be noted that the property forms the principal part of the larger Manor House and is thus attached to its neighbour, but in the agent's opinion this in no way detracts from the quality of the accommodation and instead offers a unique opportunity to acquire a magnificent Manor House. Prospective purchasers may also be aware of plans for the expansion of Ashford town. Prospective purchasers should rely on their own enquiries of Ashford Borough Council. It is the opinion of the agent that Old Chilmington will remain what it is today, a splendid, partly moated Manor House.
Please note that the Agent's note on the brochure was prepared in 2008 and is no longer current.

A cellar is found at the rear of the property.
