Old Chilmington is Grade II Listed as being of great historic interest. The main elevation is of red brick on a base of stone with a tile hung first floor, believed to have been replaced in the 17th century. The heavily timbered principal rooms have high ceilings for the period. Of particular interest are the painted ceiling timbers with black and white herringbone patterns, believed to date from circa 1500 as suggested by Hasted in his 'History of Kent'. Period features abound throughout the property and include a ragstone wall and broadgauge floorboards. The property was originally moated and part of this remains, providing an interesting vista to the front of the property.

Chilmington Green is a small hamlet forming part of the parish of Great Chart, about 2 miles from Ashford town centre, currently surrounded by open countryside.
