Description

Williamcraigs is a beautifully presented, mid-Victorian country house set just to the south of Linlithgow in an attractive rural location. Built in 1858, in a grand Scottish baronial style, it is listed Category B by Historic Scotland and features a turreted tower with steep pitched tiled roof, crow stepped gables, mullioned sash windows, a crenellated entrance porch and tall chimneys. There is a wealth of space on offer with large reception rooms ideal for entertaining and substantial bedrooms overlooking the beautiful grounds. The reception hall, drawing room, dining room and morning room are all impressive rooms with ornate features and steeped in opulence.

The main house has undergone various alterations; the oak framed conservatory was added in 1995 and provides an informal space from which to enjoy the views of the garden and the surrounding countryside. More recently in 2005, work was carried out to extend and improve the kitchen and interconnecting rooms. The beautiful handmade kitchen has an extensive range of fitted units with black granite floors and granite worktops, underfloor heating and an AGA with integrated module. The kitchen opens into a breakfast room with French doors leading to the garden.

The first floor houses the master bedroom with generous en suite bathroom; the dual aspect bedroom has a working fire and bespoke fitted wardrobes. There are three further double bedrooms on this floor, two of which are serviced by a shared shower room. The third floor has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchenette, allowing this space to be used as a self-contained apartment.

The space provided by the turrets has been cleverly utilised by creating a shower room on one floor and a library/reading area on the other.
The South Wing of Williamcraigs House which was originally staff quarters is a separate residence having been divided off in the 1970s.

Garden and Grounds

Williamcraigs is set in 1.88 acres of mature wooded grounds and well established gardens with a large lawn and flowerbeds. There is an ornate, timber built, hexagonal summerhouse with glazed windows and tiled roof.
