Versatile Living The current owner has lived at Redwick House for over sixty years, buying it in 1954 when the main house had only recently been converted into two sizable properties. "Although it was in need of refurbishment we loved the large rooms and character of the place. The sitting room was originally the working kitchen, and when we opened up the fireplace we discovered some old tiles from when the range cooker would have stood there." The layout of the main reception rooms is extremely versatile as both the sitting room and dining room have doors out to a south-facing terrace, as well as a connecting door through to each other, making them ideal for entertaining, especially in the summer.
Full of Character The property sits within mature gardens and grounds, and is accessed either via a pedestrian gateway off the street, or via a driveway to the rear where there is hard standing for parking and a detached garage. To the front a paved path leads through the pretty walled garden, and stepping inside you find yourself in a large entrance hall with a galleried stairway rising to the left. From here doors lead through to both the sitting room and the dining room, and there is also a downstairs cloakroom to the right. The sitting room affords wonderful views out across the sheltered garden to the rear and, with a wealth of exposed beams and a large open fire with an attractive copper hood, is full of charm and character.
Room with a View From the sitting room a door leads through to the dining room, which again has lovely views out across the garden, and as well as a door out to the sunny terrace, also has a door through to the kitchen. "The kitchen used to be scullery of the main house and there is still a large walk-in larder to one end that stays lovely and cool, and in here there are also two very pretty arched windows which are a lovely feature." The kitchen, although in need of an update, is a wonderful family space complete with an Aga, with plenty of work surfaces and room for a table and chairs for family meals. Off the kitchen there is also a very useful boot room, that was once the game larder, and this leads through to the garden room as well as a back door out to the garden. "With glass on two sides the garden room is such a light bright room that we tend to use it all year round. It is lovely sat in there with the door to the garden open, just watching the birds or enjoying the view."
Garden Delights Upstairs at Redwick House there are four double bedrooms that radiate off a large landing, as well as a family bathroom and separate shower room that sits between two of the bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms look out over the large garden to the rear, and the master bedroom has a lovely feature fireplace and two large fitted wardrobes. "This home has worked so well for us as a family, and I have such fond memories of the boys carefully laying out their train tracks along the landing." The walled garden to the front is laid mainly to lawn with mature borders along the edges, and then to the side of the property there is a sheltered yard where a large built in shed could easily be converted to a workshop if required. To the rear the lawn extends down past the greenhouse to an area of mixed fruit trees. "The view down the garden in the spring is lovely; we have a magnolia, two plum trees, an apple, a pear and also a greengage tree so the blossom looks quite spectacular." The garden also extends beyond the garage and this is where there is now current planning permission for a new property to be built.
