Full description

Tenure: Freehold

A striking, individually architect designed house on the Shropshire/Welsh border with 4 bedrooms, 3 reception rooms, secluded position, landscaped gardens, land and far reaching views. In all about 7.9 acres.

Fronheulog is located in the rolling countryside of the Welsh Borders in the hamlet of Pentre Llifior, 3.5 miles south west from the pretty village of Berriew. Pentre Llifior is known for its Methodist Chapel; a listed chapel built in 1798 and is one of two surviving 18th centre Wesleyan Chapels. The village of Berriew provides a small selection of day-to-day amenities including a village primary school, store, butchers, hotel and public house. Whilst it is a small village, it does have an active community with a number of clubs and societies. The larger towns of Newtown, Welshpool and Shrewsbury are 7 miles, 9 miles and 27 miles away respectively and provide greater shopping and recreational amenities.

Originally two 19th century cottages, Fronheulog is now a substantial and individual architect designed home built with high quality materials to create interesting and dramatic living spaces.
Set within beautifully landscaped grounds, the property benefits from large windows that allow maximum light into the house and provide superb views out to the gardens and surrounding hills.
Welsh slate flooring is used extensively in hallways and the formal reception rooms, combined with substantial timber beams and craftsman carpentry throughout.

Accommodation is set over two floors, with the reception hall on a half level between the ground and first floors. The ground floor is split into two distinct halves with a large modern formal drawing room and vaulted dining room to one side and a traditional kitchen and informal snug to the other. The kitchen/breakfast room features bespoke oak wall and base units designed by Erni Upton with oak and granite work surfaces. As well as a four oven oil fired Redfyre, there is a ceramic electric hob, double Belfast style sink, integrated fridge and dishwasher. Both the drawing room and snug feature Clearview wood burning stoves.

The master bedroom is a luxurious space having an en-suite bathroom and fitted "walk in" dressing room. From the master bedroom a staircase leads to a galleried study custom fitted with a range of desking, cabinets and library shelving. On the first floor, there are three further bedrooms (one with en-suite) plus a walk-in wet room in Travertine limestone. In addition to these areas, the house offers extensive storage facilities with a cold store, household store room and workshop, as well as a large store room above the garage.

Fronheulog sits in an elevated yet sheltered position and is approached from the lane through electric gates via a sweeping block paved driveway. There is a parking area in front of the car port and garage. Immediately to the front of the house is a south facing Yorkstone terrace. With direct access to the dining room it makes an ideal entertaining space.

Considerable thought has been given to the landscaping of the gardens and grounds to provide enjoyment and colour throughout the seasons and include a Judas tree, Magnolias, Camellias and Acers to name just a few. In the far south eastern corner is a sheltered productive kitchen garden with redcurrant and blackcurrant bushes, apple, pear, mulberry trees and a very useful potting shed and tractor store.

Square Footage: 3,838 sq ft
Acreage: 7.9 Acres

From Welshpool take the A483 towards Newtown and turn right onto the B4390 signposted Berriew. Once in Berriew, turn left towards Bettws Cedewain on the B4385. Proceed over the river and straight ahead up the hill for 3.5 miles passing the Pentre Llifior Chapel on your left. Take the next sharp right turn and Fronheulog can be found after a short distance on the right hand side.
