4 bedroom detached house for sale

Cheyne Walk, London, SW10

Property Description

Full description

Tenure: Freehold

This fantastic four-bedroom house with off-street parking and river views is newly completed to a design by renowned architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

The four-storey home is entered at street level through galvanised-steel gates that permit both pedestrian and vehicle access. The main entrance opens onto a spacious L-shaped living area, with open-plan kitchen / dining room and a striking double-height seating area with a large clerestory window that floods the space with light. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, sections of which open onto the ground-floor courtyard, run the full length of the space.

First-floor accommodation includes two bedrooms, one with ensuite bathroom, and a family bathroom. The top floor contains the master bedroom, with ensuite bathroom, and a roof terrace.

The bedrooms to the front of the property have large corner windows which are orientated towards the river, maximising both the view and the intake of light. All bedrooms have bespoke fitted wardrobes and two sets of internal roller blinds: black-out blinds and a second set of translucent blinds for daytime privacy. An exacting attention to detail is evident in the bespoke joinery of the oak window sills, internal doors and oak staircases.

At lower-ground level there is a very large living area, which could be configured as a fourth bedroom or office. With the same floor-to-ceiling glazing as the main living area, the space is very light. There is access to a sunken courtyard with an external concrete staircase which leads to the upper courtyard. Also on this level is a bathroom, utility room and plant room.

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has experience in masterplanning and urban design as well as art galleries and the creative reuse of historic buildings. The practice won the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2008 for Accordia in Cambridge. This project is a rare example of the practice’s residential design, but one that showcases the same pioneering environmental expertise and progressive architectural approach for which they are well known.

The house has sustainable principles embedded in the design, with materials and systems chosen to ensure a low impact building. The structure is highly insulated and built on a CLT frame, a process which saves nearly 3,750 kg of embodied carbon, equivalent to approximately seven flights between New York and London. Waste heat is captured by the mechanical ventilation heat recovery system, recycling over 80% of the energy that would otherwise be wasted.

Cheyne Walk is one of London’s most interesting and prestigious streets, formerly home to many notable residents from George Eliot to Mick Jagger, and runs along the north bank of the River Thames. The King’s Road, with its excellent selection of shops, restaurants and bars, is a few minutes’ walk away. Sloane Square, the Royal Court Theatre and the Serpentine Gallery are close by, along with Battersea Park and Chelsea Physic Garden. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is held annually in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea on the Chelsea Embankment.

The nearby Sloane Square and South Kensington Underground stations run District, Circle and Piccadilly Line services. The A4 provides quick access by car to Heathrow Airport (approximately 35 minutes), and the south west of England.
