A unique opportunity to purchase a complete, renovated STEADING set in the idyllic surroundings of the Argyll countryside. Barmore Farm is a fine, rare, example of a complete Victorian Steading. Converted, originally into a successful bar and restaurant with accommodation, and subsequently into holiday letting, it now consists of 4 self-catering properties.
The sympathetic restoration work carried out by the current owners in consultation with Historic Scotland, brought these buildings back from the derelict state they found themselves in, to being a long-standing part of the local business community. The cottages offer a range of different layouts and styles. Currently 4 two-bedroom holiday let units. Interestingly, the foresight of the original restoration used a type of construction which will allow the main Steading building to be altered to a number of confirgurations with relative ease: e.g. a 5 bedroom family home. There is alarge lawn/play area and parking for several cars. All in all this exciting business venture offers a multitude of possibilities – hostel, garden centre, bar/restaurant, B&B – subject to planning regulations.
Barmore Farm lies approximately 1 mile North of the beautiful fishing village of Tarbert which, itself, is about 100 miles from Glasgow, being 37 miles north of Campbeltown and 14 miles south of Lochgilphead where the Administrative Headquarters of Argyll & Bute Council are located on the outskirts. Commuting therefore to any of the major villages in the area does not present any difficulty. Tarbert is well situated as a hub from which to travel by ferry to islands and other parts of Argyll. The ferry terminal to Islay at Kennacraig is 5 miles South of the village and to the east there lies the terminal at Claonaig linking to Lochranza on the Island of Arran. Portavadie, on the Cowal peninsula, can be reached in 30 minutes by the ferry which crosses Loch Fyne from a terminal in the village. In Tarbert there is a full range of facilities including a 3-18 school, post office, a range of shops, a small supermarket, coffee shops, hotels ands restaurants. It is particularly well known as a yachting centre, hosting the annual Scottish Series Sailing Regatta, and fishing port, being one of the most attractive and natural safe anchorages in the Highlands. There is a challenging nine hole golf course about 1¼ miles to the west of the village on the road to Kilberry and 2 international courses at Machrihanish about 38 miles to the south, clcose to the Mull of Kintyre.
