The scenic parkland, Aros Park which provides lovely views of Tobermory and Calve Island is close by and the village itself has several amenities, including the islands largest primary school where Gaelic is taught, as well as a shop, doctors practice and various places to eat. There are also walks, fishing, and local wildlife tours departing from the village. Salen is a short 20 minute drive from Craignure Ferry Terminal where there are regular ferries to the mainland town of Oban.
