The Alpine-style chalet was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton in around 1858, at the same time as he designed the Spa pavilion, which incorporated what is now the site of the Grand Hall before much of the interior was lost to a fire in 1877.It is believed the chalet was built at the same time as the Spa Pavilion and was occupied for many years by the manager of the Spa at that time. It features a hipped low pitch slate roof with deeply overhanging chalet eaves with fretted boards. As a uniquely interesting architectural entity it is, unsurprisingly, listed Grade II as of special interest.

In recent years, after a comprehensive refurbishment by the present owners, the house has been used as a highly successful holiday let.
