The Story

The beauty of life at Jennys Way, Netherne on the Hill, is that everything the current owners need is right on their doorstep. The appealing five bedroom house is part of a development on the site of a former hospital.
“It is brilliant because we have a village shop here and then all the facilities for residents, including a gym, pool, tennis courts and cricket, there is a shuttle bus to the station a few miles away for those who have to commute to work, and there is talk of a new coffee shop opening too,” she says. “There are playgroups in the village and there is a park and playground, with a cricket pitch, which you can walk to through the grounds. This is a very pleasant place to live.”

GREEN AND PEACEFUL
It was almost four years ago that the owners moved into their spacious home. Built about 14 years ago, it is one of the newer properties on the site, which also includes original buildings that have been converted into homes, and which is approached via an attractive long and winding road, designed for horse and carriages to use. “When we first came to look at the house I loved the peaceful feel of the development,” she remembers. “It felt very quiet and close to nature, with lots of greenery.”

MODERN KITCHEN
The house itself was generous, with rooms of good proportions and an enclosed garden: “The space here is brilliant and the house is light and airy,” she says. “Everything seems to fit so well. All the bedrooms are large enough for double beds and built in wardrobes.” Since moving they have made changes and updated the property. They have laid new carpet upstairs and in the hallway; they have also hidden the wooden and white stone flooring downstairs beneath a covering they found to be more practical but which new owners could remove to reveal the original flooring if necessary.
“We have recently had a new kitchen installed and decorated the whole of the ground floor,” she says. “It now has a much more modern feel, with high gloss, walnut coloured gloss units, integrated appliances and cream coloured stone work surfaces. There is also a new induction hob and wine fridge.”

EASY LIVING
The kitchen is a bright space, with a breakfast bar, room for a dining table and French doors out on to the terrace.
“Having the kitchen like this has been amazing, it is so nice to be able to cook and chat to guests while people are sitting at the table. In the summer we can either eat inside or sit out in the sunshine.” With a spacious drawing room and a television or media room, complete with a screen and projector, there is always somewhere to relax quietly.
“I love the way we have a big hallway, which opens out on to all the rooms. It makes this a very easy house to live in and comfortable place to be if you have lots of guests.”

PEACEFUL PLACES
Upstairs there are five bedrooms and a family bathroom. Two of the bedrooms, including the master, have en suite bath or shower rooms.
“I do love our bedroom, which is very peaceful. The whole house is extremely quiet in fact. You do feel that you have your privacy here, yet at the same time, you know there are other people close by, which is nice.” The garden is also a relaxing place. This is south facing and features a terrace and a lawn: “We have sun from the morning right through until the evening and it is lovely because we are not overlooked,” she adds.

WOODS AND COUNTRYSIDE
While the owners have enjoyed the village like feel of the community they have also found it easy to get to other places when necessary. They are surrounded by beautiful countryside, where they can walk or cycle, and there is good access to major roads.
“It is very easy to pick up the A23 and then the M23 is just two minutes down the road. My husband has to drive to work every day and finds it so quick to pick up the motorway and be on his way,” she says. “Coulsdon Station is just a few minutes’ drive from here and we also like the fact we can head down to Brighton and be at the beach in half an hour.” She adds: “There is lots of woodland close by – we can walk to Farthing Downs from here or drive to Banstead Woods in about 10 minutes. We do hope to stay in this area when we move as we enjoy it so much.”

Setting The Scene

The impressive five bedroom home sits in a peaceful and popular semi-rural village setting. The generous, south facing garden is excellent for family activities and could really come into its own for summer or evening entertaining.
Doors from the back of the house open on to the terrace. The rest of the garden is lawned, and bordered with mature trees and hedges.
Residents also have exclusive use of local amenities including a gym and swimming pool.

What's Nearby ()

Residents of the Netherne area are entitled to the use of local facilities which include a gym, swimming pool, sauna, bowling club with cricket green and tennis courts. Within Easy Reach

DIRECTIONS:

From the A23 northbound, turn right onto Dean Lane (next to Starbucks). A little further up, take a left onto Netherne Lane and follow for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left onto Cayton Road and then left again onto Jennys Way. The property will be further along on your right.
