Historic, former distillery owner's house close to Wigtown.

Fordbank House sits within extensive gardens and is approximately half a mile from Wigtown and approximately 7 miles from Newton Stewart. The historic and picturesque town of Wigtown is located on the edge of the Solway Firth on the south west coast of Scotland. Wigtownshire is a beautiful rural area of Scotland, well known for its livestock farming, magnificent forests and coastlines. The area benefits from the mild Gulf stream climate.

Wigtown is a picturesque traditional market town and is known worldwide as Scotland's National Book Town, a designation that reflects its dozen or so quality bookshops and annual literary festival. Founded in 1999, the ten day book festival is now one of the UK's best loved literary events. As well as offering a good range of local shopping and professional services, Wigtown and nearby Newton Stewart are regarded as natural bases from which to explore the Galloway Forest Park which covers a vast and sparsely populated area stretching to the north east. The wild landscape and extensive woodland and unspoilt coastlines provide many opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Country sports in the area include fishing and stalking as well as pheasant and partridge shooting on surrounding estates. There is an excellent range of eight local golf courses. The coastline offers sailing and sea fishing and there are safe anchorages at Port William and the Isle of Whithorn. The A75 provides excellent road links and there are railway stations at Stranraer and Dumfries.

Fordbank House is a Victorian country house originally built for one of the owners of the nearby Bladnoch distillery in the mid 19th century. The villa was run as a hotel for several years and the present owners purchased the hotel and carried out a residential conversion removing modern extensions and refurbishing the interior.

The accommodation on the ground floor comprises: reception hallway with entrance vestibule, well proportioned living room with aspects to front and side, formal dining room, office, store room, utility room and exceptionally spacious dining sized kitchen with classic Shaker style units. The first floor accommodation comprises: master bedroom with en suite bath and shower room, four further double sized bedrooms with en suites and a family bathroom. The basement accommodation currently comprises: lower utility room / store room and snug / lounge.

Fordbank sits within substantial gardens with driveway, stepped lawns and an area of ground which may offer potential for use as a small paddock.

From Dumfries head west on the A75 to Newton Stewart. From the roundabout at Newton Stewart follow directions to Wigtown. After approximately 5 miles, before reaching Wigtown, take the road to the right hand side sign posted to Port William, Garlieston and Whithorn. After approximately 1.3 miles you will find the entrance to Fordbank House on the left hand side. Post code for sat nav DG8 9BT.
