Description

The Old Hall is a fine Grade II* listed manor house dating in part from 16th Century in a glorious position adjoining a private lake within grounds of about 11.75 acres. Set within moated south facing gardens and adjoining the lake, this impressive home dates from the 17th Century, with 16th Century origins.

This is very much a 'mini estate' within its own grounds standing at the head of a long stone cobbled driveway with an expansive turning/parking area in front of a range of outbuildings which have been converted to provide garaging and ancillary rooms including a large games room with a bar.

The main house lies beyond a bridge over the moat and has a wonderful garden, outside entertaining space and a loggia.

Discretely set to the side of the driveway is an En-Tout-Cas tennis court and to the rear of the partly converted barn is an equestrian area including four stables, a tack room, hay store and direct access to the grazing parkland to the far side of the lake.

The first floor of the barn offers plenty of scope to create accommodation to the buyers specific needs, subject to necessary permissions and planning.

The main Hall has undergone many improvements over the last century and more recently the installation of a number of new bathrooms and a Smallbone bespoke kitchen with Jerusalem stone flooring and a double Aga.

The reception rooms are comfortably arranged for modern living and the fine panelled drawing room, with its triple aspect and vista directly over the lake and , is amongst the most beautiful we have encountered.

The internal stonework is exquisite, much of it ashlar buff and red sandstone quarried locally at Alderley Edge with mullion windows, stone architraves, fireplaces and flooring. The mellow local stone internal walls match the Kerridge stone roof and there is plenty of exposed oak and timbers. The doors and windows are also in oak, with beamed and strapped ceilings to many rooms.

The impressive bedroom suites are delightful and are attractively furnished. The master bedroom suite is especially generous with direct views over the lake to the lower slopes of The Edge.

History
Nether Alderley was one of the principal rural villages of the area with its Mill, 14th Century St Mary's Church and The Eagle and Child, the village pub long ago converted.

The Old Hall is understood to have been the home of the Stanley family, Lords of the Manor for over 300 years. The principal house was built for Sir Thomas Stanley in the early to mid 17th Century and the present property is probably an addition to the earliest hall of the 16th Century. A baroque front of 1754 was destroyed by fire in 1779 which led to the building of nearby Alderley Park.

Form Alderley Edge continue south through the village along Congleton Road for about 1.2 miles passing Nether Alderley Primary School where shortly afterwards the drive entrance will be found on the left hand side.
