HISTORICAL NOTES

6 West View is one of a pair of matching Dower Houses built around 1850 for the daughters of the Margerison family, and though dating from the early Victorian period, is designed to reflect the softer and arguably more elegant style of the Regency period. Prior to its acquisition by the current family the property was for a time the location of the very first Moorfield School following its establishment by the Misses Thorpe. Another notable resident was the celebrated car designer Gerald Palmer who occupied the property between 1942 and 1949, and is well known for his pre and post war MG designs - rumour has it that it was in this house that Palmer designed the Jowett Javelin, reputedly drawn life size on the main wall of the principal reception room.

GENERAL REMARKS

The sale of 6 West View offers a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire one of these much admired Grade II Listed family homes, occupying a highly desirable setting with open aspects to the front across 'West Park', whilst being within just a few hundred yards or so of many of Ilkley's central amenities including everyday shops, the railway station, theatres and restaurants.

The much loved family home, in the same ownership since 1958, retains many lovely period features and the all prevailing elegance of the Regency style. The accommodation is planned over four floors in all, with the ground floor providing three well proportioned reception rooms as well as a cloaks and utility, supported by a large living kitchen to the lower ground floor where a substantial store room/former pantry offers considerable potential. Over the upper two floors there are five double bedrooms, which either have views to the west or to the rear onto the former grounds of Ilkley Hall. Whilst the nearby Ilkley Moor provides stunning walks and a seemingly endless amenity, more immediately there are gardens to the front and rear - the former predominantly laid to lawn, whilst the rear has been landscaped in an Italianate style and provides a very desirable and sheltered amenity.

The former Victorian spa town of Ilkley is set in the heart of Wharfedale amidst some of Yorkshire's most dramatic scenery, and yet the town provides excellent commuter links with many of the region's business centres including Leeds and Bradford, Harrogate and the East Lancashire conurbation. Ilkley's railway station offers regular services throughout the day into both local cities, and from Leeds there are frequent connections to London Kings Cross. A local international airport is just some 10 miles from town. Ilkley is well known for its first class shopping and this is complimented by a comprehensive range of social and recreational amenities including very popular sports clubs which cater for a wide array of tastes. The town also has the benefit of a highly regarded schooling system (Ilkley Grammar School being an easy walk from West View), although there are also private schools for children of all ages within comfortable daily travelling distance.

Whilst requiring some upgrading and improvement the sale of 'No. 6' offers a first class opportunity to create a highly desirable home within an understandable much sought after location.

From our office in the centre of town proceed up Wells Road towards the moor, passing the white apartment block to the right hand side. Continue in the direction of the moor and the property will be seen to the left hand side, identified by a for sale board.
