Attractive farmhouse in the heart of Glenclova

Location

Whitehillocks is situated in the heart of Glen Clova, an Angus Glen, on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park. The River South Esk runs down the glen and continues south west to meet the sea at Montrose.

The route up Glen Clova is flanked by mountains described by Nigel Tranter in "The Eastern Counties" (Hodder & Stoughton Ltd, 1972) as "steep, craggy and dominant with great scooped hanging corries ringed by cliffs". The farmland on the lower slopes at the head of the glen give way to the extensive Glendoll Forest, and the area is renowned for its rich diversity of flora and fauna. Tranter also indicates that Clova is reported to be the most lovely of the Angus Glens.

Whitehillocks is ideally situated for those who wish to enjoy the range of outdoor pursuits which are available in this part of Angus. The spectacular scenery offers ample opportunity for walking and mountaineering. Jock's Road, a renowned track through the hills to Braemar, begins at the foot of Glen Doll and winds westwards along the White Water before tracking north. There are further routes north to Loch Muick and locally through Glendoll Forest, at the head of Glen Clova.

Fishing may be taken on the North and South Esks. Golf courses in the area include Kirriemuir, three at Alyth, and the famous Rosemount course at Blairgowrie. Other pursuits include loch fishing at Lintrathen, ski-ing in Glenshee and riding.

Whilst situated in the glen Whitehillocks is not remote. Angus benefits from good communications to Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The A90 dual carriageway is easily reached from Kirriemuir. Dundee has a mainline railway station with regular services to the north and south. Edinburgh Airport has a range of national and European flights and there are services from Dundee to London Stansted and Amsterdam.

There is a primary school at Cortachy with secondary schooling at Webster's High School in Kirriemuir and Forfar. The well known Glen Clova Hotel, is situated a little further up the glen. Dundee and Perth provide all the services expected of major cities.

Description

Whitehillocks is a farm on the local estate. Situated part way up the glen there are lovely views, both across and up Glen Clova.

Whitehillocks Farmhouse is an attractive 19th century farmhouse, which has benefitted from recent improvements. Since 2010 partial double glazing has been installed, the boiler has been renewed, the kitchen has been refurbished, dormer window replaced, a new oil tank has been fitted and the plumbing upgraded.

It is a traditional two storey stone built house with a single storey extension to one side. It faces south west and enjoys lovely views across the glen.

A partially glazed front door opens to the sun porch with partially glazed doors to the hallway. Accessed off the hallway are the sitting room, bedroom 1, bathroom and living room. The sitting room has an open fireplace and lovely views. Next door to Bedroom 1 is the shower room which has a shower cubicle with wet walling, pedestal washbasin, WC, heated towel rail, and a cupboard housing the Grundfus Home Booster water tank. The living room or dining room has an open fireplace with tiled surround and hearth, recessed shelves and corner cupboards. Off this is the fitted kitchen which has wall and base units with plumbing for a washing machine, sink, fitted Lamona dishwasher, 4 ring Lamona hob and oven, fitted fridge/freezer and a door to the side entrance lobby with coat hooks.

A staircase from the hallway leads up to the first floor landing where there is a walk in cupboard with hot water tank. Off this are bedrooms 2 and 3 together with the bathroom which has a bath, shower cubicle, pedestal washbasin and WC.

At the back of the house is a Worcester boiler. Adjacent to the house is a wooden garage with up and over door and concrete floor. The garden in front of the house is mainly down to grass. An area behind and to the side of the house could be used as a paddock.

Cottage and steading also available.
