This much admired village has evolved over the centuries, retaining much of its historical character and natural beauty.Aldwincle is a traditional East Northamptonshire village with the majority of the houses being built of local stone and roofs a mixture of thatch, slate and clay tiles. The village follows the line of the River Nene, as it meanders its way towards Oundle, and is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the valley with its meadows, open views and woodland. The village has a shop, excellent primary school and a pair of churches.Leisure and shopping facilities are available close by in the historic market towns of Oundle and Thrapston. More extensive facilities, including main line rail services are available from Kettering,Huntingdon and Peterborough with journey times to London from50 minutes.
Peace Haven Cottage is a delightful stone and brick cottage with thatch and pantile roofs. The stone part of the house dates from the early 18th Century and the brick part from the early 19th Century. The property is Listed Grade II. Within the garden is a Victorian former abattoir that is now a useful annex.
The property has been beautifully and sympathetically modernised in recent years, whilst leaving many of the original features, such as wide floor boards, a beautiful inglenook and attractive windows. The thatch has been replaced within the last 7 years.
The accommodation is set over two floors. The ground floor has several doors opening to the garden. The main door opens to the hall which has a cloakroom / WC adjacent. The sitting room is a wonderfully atmospheric room with a beautiful stone floor and an inglenook to one end. A central staircase divides the room creating a dining area to the other end. The kitchen is fitted with a range of bespoke furniture with granite work-surfaces. An Aga graces the fireplace. There is ample space for dining. French doors open to the garden. A further door opens to the back hall / utility which provides excellent storage within built-in cupboards. There is also a sink. A door leads to the back stairs.
The main landing is approached via stairs from the living room. Doors lead to three of the bedrooms and the shower rooms. The main bedroom has an exposed timber floor, windows to the front and rear and a useful storage / dressing area behind the chimney. The second bedroom has an original floor with wide boards. There are two shower rooms each with a basin and WC. The third bedroom is set at the back of the house and is accessible either from the main landing or from the back stairs. This double room has a staircase rising to the attic conversion which serves well as a child's bedroom, a hobby room or office. A shower room is set to one end. Bedroom 3 and the attic room could serve as a suite, particularly as it has direct access from the outside, via the back stairs.
The annex is a brick and tiled Victorian building. This comprises two living rooms, a bathroom and a mezzanine. This building would make a characterful rental property, a studio / workshop or perhaps guest accommodation.
Property has parking within a gated hardstanding area. The garden, though not large, offers areas of interest, with a small lawn, well stocked borders, a terrace and the original well. There is good privacy.
