Limegarth Wood lies approximately 2 miles north-east of Grange-over-Sands in the Lake District National Park. Rising to around fifty metres above sea level the scenic woodland overlooks the north-western shore of the Kent Estuary and towards Arnside.
The site has a long history of use for fundamental research in to woodland ecology and the outstanding assemblage of plants and invertebrates on show present clear evidence of this.
Access to the woodland is through the existing field gate off Meathop Road, over the adjoining neighbour's pasture, as marked purple on the site plan attached. Within the woodland there are various woodland tracks to follow.
The woodland is home to a variety of wildlife and large quantities of ground flora, making a fine display in the spring. Limegarth Wood has been recognised as a scarce British habitat of undisturbed native woodland located on limestone. The property is therefore designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and subject to a Limestone Pavement Order (LPO).
Central to the wood is the remnants of a former Tower which is led to by an historic woodland track.
The property offers a great opportunity to purchase 'a tranquil piece of the Southern Lakes' that has a great deal of biodiversity value.
Take the A590 west from Levens, at the roundabout take the first left on to the B5277 towards Lindale. After 100m turn left towards Meathop. At the Meathop T-Junction turn right towards the Caravan Site, continue 1000m and the access to Limegarth woodland will be immediately on your left, directly across the roadside pasture.
